For quite a few years now, every time I get ill, virus, sick bug, colds etc, a rash appears towards the end, it goes from my neck, down my breasts, trunk and back, Could this be lupus?
I do have small red blister type spots on my cheeks all year round.
Does anybody else have this as a symptom?
I'm going to send the photos that I have, to my gp, and how easy was it for you to be diagnosed?

You need to have blood work done. Even then, it’s ambiguous. I hope you have an excellent rheumatologist. I never found one. There is so much overlap with autoimmune illnesses, they’re difficult to diagnose. I wish you the best of luck!
I have woke up this morning, and the rash has gone down quite a bit, it's just so strange that every time I am sick, this rash reappears in the same place, but nobody else in my family has this. I just hope I can find some answers soon.
The type of blood tests you need will be from the Rheumatologist not the GP I think. If you have other symptoms along with the rash then a referral to a Rheumatologist would be a good next move. Be aware that blood tests can come back negative even if you have Lupus or another autoimmune disorder. Most of my bloods bar one came back negative but I have so many symptoms and was then diagnosed with Sjogrens and Lupus. I do have rashes and red spots like you on face and neck mostly. Comes up with sun exposure or sometimes to medications or creams I haven't tried before or just stress. Mostly the one thing that most have is exhaustion every day for no apparent reason and that you can't do anything about. It's a key sign you're fighting something and it's taking most of your body's energy to fight itself. Hope you get help its seems it's not easy in the UK finding a good Rheumatologist but if you have an autoimmune condition you need a diagnosis to get the right medications and diet to help you.
Thank you, I am going to ask for a referral, I do have many other symptoms alongside, I don't generally get this rash when in the sun, other than on my face which flares up, but it always appears when I have a virus of some sort, and then disappears after a day or two.I just hope I can get to the bottom of it.
Hi Lourum, I had a similar rash but it was on my arms and legs rather than my torso. A friend of mine with juvenile arthritis had similar rashes too, so be aware that arthritis and lupus symptoms can overlap with similar rashes—and I’m sure other illnesses would overlap too!
My rheumy prescribed hydroxy which seems to have cleared the rashes up. I wish you all the best with yours, they can be so uncomfortable! 🌻
That's really interesting, I just want to get to the bottom of it, the rash only really appears when I am struck down with a virus and has been the case for quite some years now.
I suffer with cold hands and feet no matter what the weather, am constantly fatigued, lower back pain, hip pain, mouth sores, headaches which are debilitating, along with a few other symptoms regularly.
I don't seem to have any problems sitting out in the sunshine, other than the red butterfly rash seems to be more apparent on my cheeks.
I suppose everyone's symptoms can vary, I'll be speaking with my gp next week and see what they think and hopefully I'll find some long awaited answers to all my symptoms.
It’s a good thing that you know your triggers (ie. viruses), as that may help your doctors get to the bottom of things more quickly. I wish you all the best ☺️
It could well be a Post Viral rash…which is not particularly associated with Lupus…just with any sort of viral infection. I got such a rash after having Flu.I would think if you had Lupus you would have other more definitive symptoms….unfortunately Lupus doesn’t just pop up after some sort of illness….
The way to find out would be to get a biopsy……your GP would need to see the rash…..& might then refer you to a rheumatologist….he won’t prescribe a Biopsy on the NHS from a photo….& privately it is an expensive process.
Have you had any blood tests to discover if you have anything to suggest you might have Lupus?
As musical furbaby indicates rashes are a regular issue. My diagnosis is Stills Disease otherwise known as Adult onset Stills Disease. I was 17 and it’s mainly in much younger people. Anyway the first symptom was a pink lumpy blotchy rash on my thighs, wrists and lower legs. It was not sore or itchy but very heat sensitive. I have other AI conditions of the skin like Lichen Sclerosis.
I’m 60 now and whenever I’m unwell I get a sore pinprick red blistery rash on my torso. I probably shouldn’t but I sparingly treat it with the steroid cream I have for the LS and it does help but of course you should take medical advice.
Sorry this isn’t an answer but the more you know the better.
