Hello fine people! ✨😍

Deja vu! I feel like I’m having flashbacks. Maybe it is Groundhog Day? Or just an I told you so and now you have wasted one year of my life so I have felt rubbish unnecessarily. ⚠️🆘

So, my Hb wasn’t as low as when I went to donate but it was still clearly in anemic range at 11.7 (12-16.0) and my ferritin was 31 (50-350) the highest I have ever seen it without an infusion, also clearly in anemia range. My RBCs were 4.07 4.00-5.20. My iron, IBC and %sat trans were normal.

GP sent me a message with results stating indicating IDA and did I want to go supplements or straight to infusion. (Formality for shared decision making purposes since I had already told her it had been a year so far since I had tried to donate 🩸again). She also said she didn’t think it was indicated that we needed to do further workup since we had checked the colon earlier. So, she sent the order for the infusion to hematology. Now I wait for the slow wheels of bureaucratic quagmire to turn in a pandemic 😷 Hopefully soon. I would love to see some resolution to some symptoms before the end of the holidays. It makes me wonder how much the anemia intersects with my unrelenting 160 day headache, or my uptick in spasms, neurological symptoms and a few other things. 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

I hope you all have a lovely day!✨🌲🌻🍀 Make good choices and be kind to one another.

Hi DRchick. I was wondering how you were doing. I do not have the severe anemia youExperience but when I did, after 2 pregnancies, my headaches were reeling.

You have such a lovely attitude. And humor.

I try too to have this. However some days it just is what it is and I have to sit on a stiff pillow of acceptance. Prayers for you. Titters

Titters,Thank you for your prayers and kind words. I’m glad somebody appreciates my humor. I think it must have mellowed with age from what was once described as a “rapier wit” to well, what I would describe as a Malbec from the Mendoza region— dry, dark, with a fruity edge.

I am sorry you have experienced anemia and the not so great side effects. I first became aware of my anemia when I was about 19. I was told to “take iron” and that was that. That was the 80s!! I was running 100mile weeks and I had about 18% body fat (I did NOT have disordered eating) and was very lean. I ran races, went to college FT and worked 30hrs/wk. I have always struggled with my AAA personality and I am ADHD…just a little 😉

I took my first biochem nutrition class my first semester of college and have been hooked on food as medicine since. I taught my kids chemistry through cooking and don’t regret it at all.

I have found a great deal of ignorance (ignorance: lack of knowledge) of most doctors regarding anemia. And even nutrition for that matter. Not surprising that they push supplements and never follow up or look for cause. My doctor is better than most. She’s 2X board certified- 1 of them being Sports Med. She works with a lot of elite/professional athletes. Even still, I find myself having to keep advocating for my care and never trusting that it will be done right. Sometimes I feel like being a unicorn 🦄 is a wretched predicament indeed!!!

Hi DR/ you are in the States I think from A few posts? Your boots say Texas, Montana, Wyoming? No. Wine country California 🙂

Anyway, your comment about advocacy hit

Me straight on. Even though my husband

Is a great support I do all my own research and speak with Drs. In a way that he can not

Because of my reading all the excuse me vomit I have to read and regurgitate to the medical people. Anemia I have to insist

They check constantly every 3/4 months.

I’m prone to it. Low ferritin etc…. And quite

Honestly I’d love for you to message me or start a post about nutrition you use as a

Protocol that helps. I think there are other

People here who need the knowledge and can join in with their own. I was paleo for many years. It became unsustainable for me.

I never ran races like you. Being a physical outdoors person too I met my husband and one of the main attractions was we would ride 125/150 miles weekly on our bikes. I

Used to really kick his butt going uphill😜very good memories. I now have a beach bike with a Dorthy from the Wizard of Oz

Basket. 😂. I’m not ashamed to say it has taken several years to get my own humor back. Malbec from Mendoza region🤩 keep doing what you do xx

If there is interest, I can certainly post on some nutrition. I’m not an RD but I did take grad level nutrition classes (for my own edification). It would not be for any medical advice, just education.

I was just working on getting info on a new drug that I’ll be posting on here. There is always hope.

I can picture your bike. Epic! I used to ride a beach cruiser along the back bay during winter, back in the day. When it was warm, we would take a small boat and paddle around Balboa Island. Find a way, make a way!

Those boots are just from barn life. Daddy was a Texan but I’m a Navy brat—West Coast. Pick a place, I’ve been there or lived there. At one point I moved 12X in 4 years.
