When are we actually allowed out? I’m confused

Morning, sorry if I’m sounding a bit stupid but I heard that shielding for the clinically vulnerable comes to an end on March 31 but I have read somewhere that shielding is advised after the first vaccination until your 2nd dose. Also, the advice I’ve heard somewhere that need to shield for a further 2 weeks with AI. I had my first vaccination mid Feb, so does that mean that I need to continue staying indoors until May? I need some clarification regarding work. They are very strict regarding Covid safety so that puts my mind at ease somewhat. I’m very confused at the moment. Can anybody give me any answers?

Totally agree with u that sheilding is confusing MoominMomma!! 🤗Have u got a sheilding letter? I have quite a collection of them now!! 😹

On the last letter that I received it said that we're being advised to sheild until 31st March but it also says that I should be vaccinated mid Feb (which I have been) but to continue sheilding afterwards.

The letter will cover u until 31st March but as I understand it from that letter..we will be given further advice mid-March (which will mean yet another letter)

It is confusing but I think that we're really just having to be patient patients..this covid ain't going anywhere n I suppose they just have to keep updating as they get info in about the current situation.

So my thinking is hang on in there coz I think we'll be getting some clarification soon n then u can show your letter to your employer's once u know!! 🌈😽😽Xx

Thank for replying. I’ve got a collection of letters too which I’ve sent copies to work. My boss said that she’s going by the government website which said end of April. I’m not in any rush to go back -although I really do miss the company. I just don’t know what the guidelines are regarding shielding and the vaccination either. Can’t wait for the next letter from Matt Hancock to go with the rest of them!

We can be confuzzled together!!! 🤪

I received a letter yesterday saying that shielding is over on 31st March and that it is safe to go back to work (in a covid secure workplace) from 1st April. All government help with shielding except for priority supermarket slots (?!) ceases from that date. I live in Wales.

More than 3.7 million vulnerable people in England will no longer have to shield from the coronavirus from 1 April.

It comes as the numbers of Covid-19 cases and hospital admissions have declined for the past couple of weeks.

Letters will be sent out to this group in the next two weeks.

In them, people will still be advised to keep social contacts at low levels, work from home where possible and stay at a distance from other people.

Since 5 January, they have been asked to stay at home as much as possible to reduce their risk of being exposed to the virus.

But at a Downing Street press conference, Health Secretary Matt Hancock confirmed shielding guidance , which had been extended to 31 March for all those who are clinically extremely vulnerable, would end on 1 April.

This was yesterday's update .hope it makes things clearer for you

Many thanks for the clarification. Do you know what the advice is regarding shielding between the vaccination doses? That’s the bit that’s confusing me. I’ve heard that you can go out but I’ve read to shield. 🤷🏼‍♀️ x

I dont it may be made more clear in the letter when it arrives.i had mine on the 4 th feb and had no intentions of changing anything until I'd had my second dose the end of april anyway.the way I interpret yesterday advice is we can go out more but still must keep our distance and contact to a minimum so basically nothing much changes for me except I'll have to collect my prescription from the chemist as delivery will stop . Keep smiling xxx

Hi MM We had the "letter" yesterday at 15.00 by email.. Re shielding and vaccination it does not clarify anything. We (ie my wife who is CEV and me) are due to have the second jab at the end of April but what we should do between the end of March and the end of April is not specified orclear. As we are both retired we will still keep our heads down and hold out for another month or so just to be sure. The letter also says that statutory sick pay will cease at the end of March but furlough will continue, also continue to work from home if you can so I guess if you are working then it depends on your individual situation.

Hope this helps.
