Lupus /vaccine
Hi, it all depends whether you were shielding due to your lupus/medication and your age. Having a diagnosis of lupus doesn't automatically mean you will be in the vulnerable group. Hope this helps
I thought lupus attacks it’s own system/organs so you would be at risk , it’s my mum she’s over 60 and on immunosuppressants
It depends on the dose/type of immunosuppressants as being on an immunosuppressant doesn't automatically mean you will be on the vulnerable list.......even though as you say Lupus has its own complications. They also take into account any other associative illnesses. If you look on the government health site you should still be able to see the criteria and classification of being vulnerable. If your mum didn't receive notification from the government that she had been placed on the shielding list then she won't be classed as being in the vulnerable group and may have to wait until the over 60s are vaccinated.
Was your mum sent a formal shielding letter at the beginning of the pandemic? If she was, then she is a 4, if not then she is probably a 6. Pretty sure this is right. It is an anxious time, to be sure. Getting vaccinated is all I can think about and I expect your Mum is the same.
Hi Hometeam2016 ,
Due to the variation in lupus symptoms and treatments, the risk to COVID-19 can vary and not everyone with lupus will be in the same vaccine priority group. If we ignore age for the moment; anyone with lupus who is considered "clinically extremely vulnerable" would be in Group 4. Anyone else with lupus would be in Group 6. You can read more about lupus and COVID-19 vaccination in our article at lupusuk.org.uk/covid19-vacc...
So what would u class as cev with lupus ? I’m sure my mum is on immunosuppressants
Hi Hometeam2016 ,
Whether someone with lupus is considered to be CEV depends on a number of factors, with treatment being an important one. You can read about how risk is assessed in our article here - lupusuk.org.uk/coronavirus/
