I have been taking microphenalate for 10 weeks been having regular blood test last Friday I had tests, following Tuesday had a call from my doctor saying my white blood cells are low , she said I was to have another test, now I am waiting for results the doctor told me if they haven't change she will ring my specialist my question to all of you is that normal to have changes in white blood cells ?
Blood test: I have been taking microphenalate for... - LUPUS UK
Blood test
Yes - it is normal with mycophenolate. Keeping your white blood cells within a specified range is one of the ways of keeping your immune system in check to prevent it attacking you.
Part of the point of regular blood tests is to make sure your WBCs don't go below 4, and neutrophils (one component of your WBCs) don't go below (I think) 2. Those numbers are too low and you may have to take less MMF, or take a break from it.
Thanks for replying,I have been on hydroxy for years and was managing until a few months ago I am hoping microphenolate will work for me,take care
They will keep monitoring your blood. My white blood count is often low but that seems to be something that happens with mycophenolate. As long as it doesn't go too low they don't seem too worried. If yours is very low they may lower your dose. My GP refused to sign the shared care plan so I have to go to the hospital for blood tests and myco. Good luck on the mycophenolate, I hope you do well on it. Meg 🤗 xx
