Has anyone had any success with a specific Lupus diet? I’ve tried lots of different medication a lot of which don’t work very well/ have horrid side effects and am keen to see what else I can do to try and reduce my symptoms. Any advice on specific diets and/or cook books would be really helpful! I know it won’t replace the actual medication, but surly there must be other things that I can do to help reduce Lupus symptoms.

Successful Lupus Diet?
Hi you could try bone broth - I’ve been having it every day for about 5 months now and there is definitely a difference in my fatigue and all my other symptoms- I get mine from Amazon as tried making it myself but it tasted disgusting x
Look at the AIP diet. Quite tough...but I’m going to do it.
Hello Belle, We religiously use the bone broth and also I make or buy kefir to drink everyday as part of our diet. You can buy kefir from large supermarkets. It’s the strongest probiotic. Tastes like yogurt. We changed our diet more fish and vegetables. But bone broth is the key to get the strength we need. I invested into a pressure cooker which helps to make chicken broth or bone broth if you want to make it at home. Or as Svfarmer suggested, you can buy it on amazon. We drink a cup a day or every other day.
Hope this helps... with love, Lale x
Thank you all! I’d heard about bone broth, but haven’t tried it so will give it a go and will also look into kefir to see how I can add it to my diet. We’ve changed our diet to have more fish and veg, and I’ve more or less given up on gluten, although not gluten free, just gluten avoidance 😉I’ve not looked at the AIP diet, but will have a look into that as well.
Thanks and stay safe! X
I also think that getting the alkaline and acid balance right helps us a lot. We never have fried food for instance or tinned. Drinking water with lemon pieces also help us... simple things with big impact... Kefir is best to drink during the day not on an empty stomach, but feel free to try which ever works for you. Lots of love, Lale x

Hi Belle_uk ,
If you haven't seen it already, I'd recommend that you take a look at our article at lupusuk.org.uk/diet-and-hea...
It is important to be cautious about radical changes to your diet. There are a few unethical people out there touting 'cures' for lupus. You must bear in mind that lupus presents differently for everyone and what works for one person may not work for another or could be potentially harmful.
It is best to discuss any radical changes with your doctor before starting them in case they need to warn you of any potential adverse effects of interactions with your treatment.
I’m going to copy and paste what I put on another post
I was diagnosed with lupus at 26, I’m 42 now. I’ve always been obsessed with diet and looked into leaky gut syndrome very early on. I’ve always been a huge believer we can heal ourselves. I don’t eat gluten, sugar, any processed foods, hardly any alcohol for the entire time. I drink distilled or hand collected spring water; I work out, I meditate, I sleep a lot. Who knows how bad I wound have been had I just eaten like most people do, i can’t prove anything, but i signed out the hospital system at 28 and I’ve just simply never been back. I get the odd period of lethargy which has gotten a lot better over my life it used to be really bad at some points with weak aching body like I had the flu but it’s really not that bad anymore at all. I would say I pretty much live a relatively normal life just adapt slightly to work from home and live a little more gently than most. Most my symptoms have cleared up to a good level. I’m also into supplements Turkey tail tincture really helped me turn a huge corner a few years ago I also take amino acids, Irish Sea moss, Shilajit and various other things. I’ve also done courses of probiotics and a parasite cleanse. I would say diet has helped me immensely live a good quality of life, if I ate just one bit of junk food now I would feel shit immediately and notice the diffefence. There are a lot of studies linking leaky gut to lupus, I believe this is highly possible as just before my diagnosis. I was in and out of hospital getting all kinds of checks as to why my stomach was so bad. I had stomach issues before my diagnosis so was already on a journey of trying to fix myself. I never even ate badly, probably to normal people I ate healthily but i I guess I would be considered extreme. This is fine for me though, it helps me feel better, have a higher quality of life and everyone just assumes I’m much younger than I am too so it’s all a benefit. To me no food is worth feeling sick for.
One other thing I recently starting eating a bit of sourdough as a treat then got into having a slice every day, I started getting arthritic symptoms in my wrists, as soon as I stopped the bread they went away pretty much. The same happened a second time and that was it for me I’m back to no grain. If I want bread I’ll Make it myself with buckwheat.
I’m mostly raw vegan but do eat a little cooked food and eggs occasionally. But the main stay of my diet is raw vegan. I don’t really get how it’s even considered extreme or radical really as I just essentially eat everything in its natural form from nature lol. At points in my life my health was quite bad and I feel very very thankful to myself for living such a clean lifestyle because I absolutely attribute it to my ability to have this level of health. I’ve seen how bad I can feel just eating like a ‘normal person’ for one or two days.
Hi Belle, the biggest dietary change that helped me was going low carb. The carby, starchy foods make me really sick (food poisoning symptoms) but avoiding them helps me to feel almost human.
Have you tried a food diary? I did that once to help me track if certain foods were causing certain symptoms—they weren’t, but the food diary helped me to be sure about that. Just a thought. All the best with it!
