Sore throat and earache

Hi I've had an earrache and swollen glands in my throat for over a month. Rang 111 about 2 weeks ago and they told me to go the urgent care as I have lupus just to check my white blood cells which they did and they were ok. Did all the checks and they didn't seemed concerned about my throat and said they cudnt see anything wrong with my ears but I still have this troublesome earrache and what seems to be swollen glands. Went to the pharmacy and they said I should get antibiotics. Cudnt hey doc appointment! But manged to get a phone consultation and persuaded doc to give me some antibiotics which I started on monday night so not full 3 days yet. But I'm really concerned as still have the same symptoms also feels like I need to keep clearing my throat havnt got a cough as such only wen I'm. Trying to clear my throat. Any advice would be appreciated. Taking paracetamol. Gargling with warm salt water etc this has all been going on over a month now some days worse than some?

As I understand it, if it is a lupus flare anti-biotics won't make any difference. And with me white blood cells are also often normal (in terms of what is "normal" for me) when I have a flare. I can have a fever and pleurisy and a continual cough with a flare for example. (which just happens to be the exact same symptoms of the virus.)

So might be flare from all the stress? I get flares if I get stressed.

To be honest I would be relieved if it was a flare as the anxiety is probably making me worse. Just wish I could get relief from the swollen glands which is obviously causing the pain in my ear. I'm also very nasal feeling really bunged up like all my sinuses are blocked

So sorry to hear you are going through this pain.

I suffer badly from swollen glands. Regularly flares up & lingers a long time. Doctor always just says it is part of the condition. It has been frustrating to not have more answers as it can feel like there is more going on.

Hi Tre123, sorry to hear that your not well.

You just described my symptoms that I've had for about a month also. Did have a course of antibiotics a couple of weeks ago and they haven't made any difference. My throat is still sore, glands in neck swollen, constant niggling earache. Yesterday I started coughing up phlegm. I'm thinking it's my sinuses and starting decongestant tabs today. If things don't change in a couple of days I'll be phoning the gp's again. Hope you feel better soon.

Wow thts the exact same symptoms 😳 havnt finished antibiotics as yet but I can't say they are making a huge difference but you never know. I will update once I've finished the course.

Thanx Tre, hope you do also. I'll keep you updated. Forgot to say that I'm also taking paracetamol because I feel like I've a bit of a temp. I've no thermometer so only going on feeling of a slight fever, also times when I'm shivering. Started gargling with TCP yesterday which did help the throat for a few hrs.

Yes, I've been gargling with salt water and taking paracetamol it helps for a it but then tends to be the same a few hours later. 😳
