Best painkillers

Morning all. I have been taking hydroxychloroquine since 25th Feb, 200 mg for two weeks and now 400 mg since Tuesday past. The joint pains seem to be getting worse. I was taking motifene, seen GP on Mon and he prescribed celebrex instead. So far, not any relief to be honest. What are your experiences of celebrex/motifene?

If your stomach can tolerate it ( if you have no acid reflux etc) it’s worth a try. I use it with caution on very bad days but am also taking olanzapine. Otherwise your GP may offer co-codamol that’s stronger than OTC but they are reluctant to do so these days.

Some of the otc pain gels can help.

The hydroxy can, unfortunately, take some time to take effect, but it’s well worth it.

I hope things improve soon x

Thank you, it seems we all respond to different medications. Its not a case of 'one fits all' I'm probably being impatient as well which does not help. Hopefully the hydroxychloroquine will do its magic

You have my sympathies. I was told “up to three months” with hydroxy and was counting the days x

I was told 6, as I say we are all so different. People also tell me it's not that bad, its treatable sure. Easy to say when you dont experience it

I must confess I was being a bit economical with the truth there: it took longer than three months for me, but there are others here who responded much faster. As you say, we all respond differently.

Here’s hoping you have a fast response x

I was on hydroxychloroquine it can take up to 12 weeks to take affect. I had to come off it as I had pneumonia and rheumatology thought it might not be helping. It does not say in the patient info leaflet that it can suppress your immune system. But everyone is different, wish I was still taking it as it made such difference.
