Salty Crackers🧂🧂🧂and Crisps?

As many of you may know here, I have been going on with my lupus flare-up, and my new heart issues. My question to all is, I have for the last 3- weeks now been craving Salt, but only in the late evening. At first, I did not think much of it. Does anyone have a reason. or experienced this New symptom I now have. I eat healthy, I do not use a lot of salt in cooking. I drink gallons of water, and one vita-water daily till bed. I take my daily vitamins, D, C, B,. I am not stress eating. I thought maybe it was my newer medications the cardiologist has me on. Lisinopril, Procardia, and Amlodipine. But, looking them up, there is no "salt craving" side effect. I also have new abdominal pains upper left and right quadrants, and GI issues. Dry mouth, and eyes too. With these new symptoms, This just keeps getting better. It is the weekend, so there are no calls to Specialists to make, fruitless, as I go back this Tuesday for all of my testing hospital results, finally. Sad to say, I hope they yield some answers. So ,why am I so craving salt? and having the other new symptoms listed above, Any ideas?????? Also, a lot of questions regarding the use of "Primrose Oil", I have not started using it yet, for inflammation? Has anyone tried this? Hope you all are well, and I truly appreciate your input. Drinking too much water can lower sodium which in turn can make you crave salt. If you drink water in excess it can flush out other electrolytes too.

I have POTS so have to drink about 6-8 litres a day to help my ridiculously low BP. I make sure I have rehydration salts daily and drink squash as well as just water to ensure I'm getting the electrolytes I need.

I also avoid salt crackers because of weight gain and have swapped to salty popcorn.

That's my experience anyway but it might be worth discussing it with your GP and getting your electrolytes checked

Thank you Happytulip, Sorry you have POTS, with low BP, I had NOH, which made my BP change from very high numbers to very low numbers, so I to was told to drink a lot of water by my past Cardiologist I now have a new one. Now I have a newer condition, ,still testing, and my BP is to very high. I do drink a vita-water for electrolytes, but it may not be enough. You drink squash? How may I ask does that work.

I honestly don't know. I just found that drinking water all the time made me feel drained so I drink Robinson's apple squash, I make it very weak as I don't like anything too sweet. It just works for me.

I've just seen on your profile that you are in the US. Let me explain.....us Brits call drink "squash". Which is basically a concentrated juice that you dilute with water.

Did you have an image of me downing a liquidised squash vegetable? Because that wouldn't be something that I would want to try!!

I hope that explains things x

Thanks for the squash explanation. All I could imagine is sticking a zucchini in a blender and drinking a green mess.

Hi Stormy,

I don’t use salt at all in cooking and avoid salty foods but very rarely ever crave salt so not able to help there.🤨

But I do take evening primrose oil daily and have done so for 27 years. A friend with MS put me onto it and she took it daily too much higher dose than me and she still isn’t in a wheelchair 35+ years after diagnosis (although she has other severe problems associated with MS) and she puts it down to this. I very rarely suffer with inflamed joints so whether the evening primrose has helped with that I don’t know. I take it because it helps with the connective tissue and nerve sheaths I’ve been told. I ran out of it for about a week recently and started to suffer stiffness and achy joints. Coincidence ? I don’t know but I feel better now I’m taking it daily again.🥰 Hope this helps.

Lovely to see Storm again looking happy and content and as adorable as ever! Love to you both,🤗😘 Spotty💕

Hi Spotty, thank you for the information!! I was wondering about the primrose oil, I read about it, and some holistics recommended it for nerve pains and inflammations. So your input is great! Storm is such a blessing to us, he really warms my heavy heart many days. So full of young life, and Love, we are so grateful to have him, I just cant help but share him to all of you. I am drinking gatorade now, to see if it is an electrolyte imbalance, or potassium deficiency, so the many friends hee have told me. I hope you are good, and bless you for caring to my post. Enjoy the days, look for you always, in my prayers, and heart Spotty. thestormy sunshine:)

Spotty, sorry it is late here, I was wondering, what type of primrose do you take, is it a tablet or liquid, or oil? And how do you take it, and how much. Sorry so many questions. This is new to me, and I would appreciate the experienced advice from you, and all our friends here. I will not start it until I see the cardiologist on Tuesday. Then off to pharmacy, they sell it there.Pain and inflammation is plaguing me for weeks, and I am anxious to try good things. As you have gained relief, I do believe and has your friend! As for Storm, I would share him out to everyone here, he can be a mascot for a cure for all our hearts! You just let me know, and I will .... Thank you again Spotty for the prayerful information, Bless you.. thestormy sunshine:)

Hi Storm, you’re in the US? Where about? I had no idea.

May I suggest switching over to sea salt. Sea salt is healthy for you (and delicious.) Himalayan Sea Salt is said to have purifying properties. I switched to sea salt even before I knew I had AI issues.

Hi Brook, I am in N.Y. western half, you know, the part no one speaks of,LOL... Ok, sea salts, sounds interesting, I will pick some up on Tuesday when out to hospital. I am willing to try new things here, and all the ideas are confirmed by the good people of this special hub.. How have you found that changing the salts made a difference for you, If I may ask? Thank you for the advice, and reply, hope you are well, and always feeling blessed!:) thestormy sunshineXxx

Hi Stormy, I had no idea you were here in the US. Western New York, very cool.

Honestly, I don’t know that I can tell the difference, honestly. I love the taste, and from what I understand, it pulls out impurities. I figure every little bit helps so I’ll add that angle too.

But Google it, I’m sure you’ll find some interesting facts.

Thank you. Feeling very blessed 🙏, how are you?

Yes, USA, the place to be??? Although most of our friends here are from very near and far, It is what it is. My oldest Son, is in the UK, Cornwall, with my grandbabies. I so miss them all, and the UK. Was not born there but would go in a Heartbeat so to say!!! I am feeling shaky, and just in pain raynauds and musculoskeletal. So I write all and journal for the Specialists. I see some Tuesday as I said. My mind races with the possibilities. You, and everyone here are so kind to me, and caring It lfts my heart on many a day. Brook, may I ask, how do get along with the health care providers you see here in the states? I am just wondering, as you know insurances here are very different then over seas> I hit many roadblocks with health care, and insurance here. This weighs heavy in the back of me mind, as both my, husband and I are disabled. But, we make to much so says our government to qualify for any helps. Not trying to get off topic here, sorry. Blessings to you for the time you give me, and so many here dear Brook. Peace, thestormy sunshine, se the name stuck,LOL. Xxxx

in reply tothestorm

Yes, the name did stick and rightfully so.

I wasn’t having and insurance problems. I did, however, put my doctor’s on hold as of last Octoberish (a little before was my last visit). I am trying an alternative route, which has been a bit expensive but not excessive considering getting my life back. I was only on hydroxychloroquine 6 weeks but have been off it since the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Things haven’t come over night, but I do feel so much better and I’m hopeful of getting there 100%.

I am so sorry to hear that you and your husband both are having problems. Not good! I pray for you each night my dear friend! 🙏

thestorm in reply to

Very interesting Brook. Maybe you could tell me of your alternative ways someday??? I to have not been on the Chloroquine since last year. I found more side effects then wealth, so to speak. Sorry about the confusion with health insurance, I was just wondering how it worked for you, because you are here in the states. I am very glad that you are feeling better, and I will keep praying for you to get 100%, that's a great accomplished goal many of us only can strive for!! Sounds like you are on the right path. Be well, be Brook, be blessed and thank you again for your kindness in sharing with me:)Xxx

Where in the western half? New York has so much more than New York City.

thestorm profile image
thestorm in reply toKayHimm

Hi KayHimm, Thank you for asking, I am in south western New York area, near the lower Allegany county mountain reagen. In a very small town called Whitesville, New York. It is like a Norman Rockwell painting. So Beautiful, peaceful, kind, open skies, and blue water. Surrounded by the Allegany mountains. The people in these parts are Amish, living simple, kind to the earth ways, with horse drawn carriages, living off the land. It is a place that time forgot. We only just received satellite for phones and computers, tv's at the end of 2018. The town was built by a donkey farmer, and we bought part of his land. Storm is growing up with pastures and cows, streams you can fish, and any outdoor activity you could imagine. From where we had to live before, this is Havana.! Someday, I will get my butt-up and take photos of this great place. We have only been here for a year. We are very far from the city dear Kay. We were in New Jersey for some time, due to jobs. Now, this is our resting place, and we are so blessed to live a more pastoral life. On the down side, we are not close to any necessities, but you have to give to receive. Thank you again Kay for letting me share this with you. I hope you are well, and where do you live? I send you my blessings and peace. thestormy sunshine:)

Oh, that does sound like a beautiful and peaceful place. I would love to see photos. I live in Manhattan, which is not peaceful at all. My neighborhood is so much like a small town, though, that I can pay for my coffee later if I am not carrying a purse. Twice I have seen my rheumatologist when out and about - in the grocery store and once crossing the street. People in my coffee bar send cards to the other regulars when they are sick and visit them in the hospital. It is a big city but feels small when you have lived in the same place for a long time.

Xk

Hi Kay, That sounds very sweet, small places in very big cities spaces! We all come to gather in those little nooks and crannies. Happy to hear you are in the states too! You are in reach of great health care there. I have been to the city many times since I was little. As an adult some of my friends, and family have lived there. Friends still in Brooklyn, and many days spent with family on holidays there. Great memories. Love Rockefeller center, skating, the museums, the ships, always the Lincoln tunnel. My husband worked near Indian-point power plant before 9-1-1. Then no more... Some many parades, silly, I remember standing out for Macy's and bumping butts with the crowds and freezing to see snoopy!!! Broadway, family brother was there for many years. Sorry, you struck a cord with me here, and I could go on and on. But I do want to ask you,a question, you have wonderful access to alternative medicine in the city, have you ever tried anything for your conditions??? What a very special place you are in Kay. Had you ever been to Cony Island??? O' ya, and the underground there is so cool, my dad word as an architectural engineer for the newer sub-way system, that I believe is now being redone, So, yes, I have many years in the city, and I am glad it is your home... Bless you Kay, and thank you so much for sharing, feel free to post me anytime dear one.Xxx thestormy sunshine

I take Evening Primrose Oil in the form of capsules. At present I take 500mg capsules - 1 per day, as a maintenance dose but have taken 1000 mg high strength capsules in the past. I would recommend you start with 500mg and if you find you get on well with them you can always take 2 per day to get the 1000mg dose, perhaps taking one in the morning and one in the evening. The bottle will have instructions regarding dose too, so you can experiment to see what suits you.

I’m praying for you and wishing you the very best of luck at your appointment and praying the evening primrose helps you as much as it has helped me. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Storm would make a wonderful mascot for healing all our hearts. Just looking at him makes me feel so much better.😍💝

Take care Stormy sunshine and let us know how you get on. 🙏🏻😘

Thank you again Spotty for the information. I am almost looking forwards to trying it soon! As the results are very hopeful as you experienced yourself...So to store Tuesday, as with dear Brooks suggestions too!! You guys are great, and I wish I could return the favors and advice someday to all. So, for now, keep looking for Storm, sort of like "Where's Waldo", he is lifting our spirits to smiles all around!! You take care, and I will definitely post my results. I am so very anxious about. All my peace and prayers to you Spotty, and all here. :) thestormy sunshine

Thanks again for your prayers and peace Stormy,👍🏻 and I hope your health keeps improving. 🙏🏻 I’m sure the evening primrose oil will help you but like most natural products it won’t work immediately. I’m praying that your results with the cardiologist will be good on Tuesday.🙏🏻 Keep positive Stormy and try not to get anxious about it because anxiety and stress are bad for us.🥴 Cuddle Storm and you’ll feel so much better and I will keep looking for him like “Where’s Waldo”. 😂 Cammomile tea is a good calmer. I like it with a teaspoon of honey. 👍🏻

Take care dear Stormy. Love and best wishes, 🤗😘 Spotty 💕

AAAAH, Camomile tea and honey with some sweets. Yes, that is going on my list too!! Storm is my calm before the "Storm" so to speak. He stays very close when I am wound like a ball of yarn, and he sure does unravel me in all good ways. Special dog, I tell you. The good Lord knew when he created storm, exactly where to send him to us. Thank you for praying for me, Spotty. I greatly appreciate it, knowing we are not alone, is of heart warming comforts. I pray for you, and all here to be well, and am so grateful for the information and chat. Blessings to you Spotty.XX:) thestormy sunshine
