There are times when having to go barefoot is an inconvenience, so I have to be extremely careful. We heat our house with a modern fireplace, ( can you believe the fireplace has a catalytic converter ?) so that means I have to cut firewood. I'm not gonna buy it as long as I can cut it. We have 50 Acres with 30 acres in hard wood, so we will not run out of trees to cut. They grow back faster than I can cut them just for our use. I do not cut it to sell!
Due to joint & mussel issues from lupus, (not to mention the skin issues I have from Lupus), I am extremely slow now. I have to utilize all of my equipment to make it as easy on me as possible. Yep, I use my dozer to pick it up to cut, because it hurts to much to stay bent over for any length of time. Yep, I have a wood spitter also, not going to, and can't swing an ax or a wood splitting maul any more. I only got about a 1/2 of a truck load before the rain set in, that is about 4 hours for me just to do that little, I used to cut 3 loads a day, not any more, I can't. I also use the dozer to bring the trees to level ground to make it easier to cut also. Yes. I also rake the limbs and pile them with the dozer also.
I hope everyone has a good day

I understand completely, I don't post like I use to either. I do keep up with and read other post, and maybe throw in some advice and or experience every now and then?
I have to and I am extremely careful. Whether I am cutting wood or just walking in town. My feet have gotten tough over the last 3 years, but, nails, sharp metal, and broken glass will still cut and puncture tough skin. I have never had any damage, and I want to keep it that way! Rocks, sticks, and even small thorns cement and hot asphalt don't bother me now.
All I have to do is turn up the thermostat to get my heating on, and then, on a very short walk for the dog today was really tempted to lie down on tha footpath to sleep.
Keep on going, and I hope things are well with your wife.
You are so smart to use every tool at your disposal to save yourself work! You are also minimuzing the chance of injuring yourself and preserving your precious energy.
I hope your home stays nice and warm this winter from all the fires you’re able to build with your own firewood.
The house has been warm from the fireplace! However, this winter has been extremely cold, colder than usual, we have used more firewood this year than we did all of last year, and winter is not over yet!?
Laura is doing about the same. All of the rest she has had, they have all come back normal. As of now the only thing they have found is her thyroid is working very little, B12 and vitamin D are practically non existent. She is taking B12 shots and has medication for thyroid and vitamin D? I still say there is something, they just haven't found it yet?
Been a while since you have posted...I have been wondering how you are doing....I see you have been doing lot!! Not as much as you used to....I know that feeling and I do not like it. I did have a very good appointment with my Rheumy 2 days ago...basically for me, stay out of the sun and keep taking my 400 hydroxycholropnine (sp?)....I know once Spring weather comes here in New England, I probably won't be climbing trees to cut down over grown or broken tree limbs!!!...Very frustrating for me !!
I have been a little busy but, it's been due to the unusual extremely cold weather we have had here in Alabama. Laura and I have a small farm, we have chickens, that have to be seen about every day. So, I would go out for a few minutes, come back in get warm, go back out, back in. So, it was pretty much an all day affair to get farm work done, especially having to do it barefoot!
We had one snow that we got 9 1/4 inches of snow, (that doesn't happen but about every 20 years here in Alabama). Then last week we had another snow here only about 3 inches, but last week the Temp was 9 degrees with a windchill of -7 degrees. I could only stay out about 5 minutes, it would take me 30 minuets to get warm, then out again.
This winter we have already used more firewood than we did all of last winter, and this winter is still not over. Forecast calls for more extreme cold weather for us in February?
I am glad you got a good report from your doctor. I agree I won't be climbing trees either to cut limbs. I'll just use the dozer and take the tree down, I won't have to cut limbs then😂.
