Add fiber to your diet and try yoga and mindful meditations. Both are known to help lower blood pressure naturally.

Taking those readings can just make the blood pressure go up, right? I don’t like it either! Would you consider telling your doctor that it makes you anxious and you wonder if it is possible to take it less often.

@Roarah has given you two great ways to help with anxiety and lowering blood pressure. You can find great techniques on the internet. Once my blood pressure was so high I was worried I would have a stroke 😩. I did the slow breathing and relaxation technique.. next reading the blood pressure was much lower.

For starters, try two short breaths in and a long, slow breath out. Keep doing that — you will see the connection between slow breaths and slower heart rate and blood pressure.

Good luck 🍀

Heart rate and blood pressure aren't connected. I have a natural resting heart rate of 50 (has been as low as 40 when really relaxed and hospital confirmed this was just due to my level of fitness) but have high blood pressure

Hi Chezzad68 -

You are probably right. But they still recommend trying to deal with stress as best as possible.

I used to do guided imagery with children in the intensive care unit. We could see their heart rates and blood pressure go on. But this doesn’t translate into all adults being able to control blood pressure or heart rate.

We don’t want to blame people either. Mystik was looking for alternatives. Like me and many others, she may have to take medication to control blood pressure.

I agree there are things you can do to help and stress can be a big factor so reducing it may help. And generally relaxation techniques are a good thing anyway. I think I tried to resist the need for medication as never liked taking a paracetamol for even a headache. Since I accepted I needed it however nothing bad has happened so I wonder now why I resisted so long. It was absolutely through the roof when I did despite being fit, healthy (in every other way), unstressed and happy. Alternatives may help but sometimes they will not and medication may currently be the only way.

BP reduction is doable:

* ditch the car

*get bmi sorted

*do more exercise

*try yoga ,meditation as others have said

*calm yourself down

*Play music/learn a musical instrument

*Try YouTube for calming music of oriental persuasions

*enjoy housework

*try gardening 👩‍🌾

*stand in front of a mirror and 😂 and don’t 🛑 🤣🤣👍

*give up meat and gross saturated fat. Bad for heart disease

*try nuts, pulses, beans, fruit, veg and wholemeal bread and cereals

*enjoy quiet solitude

*enjoy a hermit-like life and be at peace

*keep ranting on here until the rant is deleted?🤣

*be kind to yourself

*enjoy the occasional wine gums with no added beef gelatine

*enjoy peace and quiet in the local library!

*have a hot, long sudsy bath with wonderful perfumed water

*ditch pretentious, selfish people that stress you out

All the best!

I’ve forgotten another thing. Due to CFS I do less cooking and enjoy more ready meals but a problem!🧐

Hidden salt!

Lots added in ready meals. RDA? No more than 6g/day?!…. and I do love yeast extract on toasted wholemeal bread but the reduced salt ones. Still salty though🤣 marmite👍

Sometimes high blood pressure is genetic. I have it yet I am a healthy weight, have a vegan diet and have a generally happy stress free life. I resisted medication for a long time but now just accept it is how it is. Better that than having a stroke.

stress and anxiousness is elevating your BP it is a vicious cycle. knowingly that you have almost tried everything. are you able to have a relaxing bath or swim to take your mind off things or do something to help you relax . it will help I know this from experience as being highly stress person I find knitting ,sewing and baking and the occasional walk helps . it helps me relax also a deep body massage also helps😅😉 if you can get some one in the fam to give you one.

I just saw someone talking about heart rate and BP . Well , they are totally different . readings. you can have a heart rate of 50 and a BP reading or 140/70 or a heart rate of 110 with blood pressure with 120/60.you need to be concern about your diastolic reading that is the bottom part of the blood pressure. what I normally do is get a reading Inna morning before I get up of laying then when I.am standing afters. that will give you a good indication whether you actually have high blood pressure.

Hi MystikIt’s true that it’s possibly genetic. My father had it and my brother has it and so he has to take meds.

I had it for a while, on and off but 6 months ago I decided to try fasting. Since doing that and cutting down on salt and cutting out sugar - not completely but cut right down - and no snacking. Eating more fruit, veg and fish and moderate exercise - brisk walks, cycling etc. Then within two weeks my blood pressure went right down. I felt I had more energy too.

I appreciate it’s not for everyone but it completely worked for me.

How's your weight? I have had high blood pressure for some years and was on 2 different medications. I lost a significant amount of weight to get into a normal BMI and my blood pressure went through the floor and I dropped the meds. I didn't change anything else e.g. salt in diet, coffee, exercise levels, stress management etc. Just the weight loss did it.
