I just wanted to thank everybody here who gave advice and expressed concern about my large dose of Hydroxychloroquine. I checked out the Amsler grid and to my horror the lines were wavy and I had grey missing areas. I made an appointment at my local Specsavers and they were amazing.After an hour and a quarter of eye health tests, they refused to test my eyesight and they made an urgent referral to the Macalar clinic. I have free fluid at the back of my eyes which has built up pressure in the optic nerve. My left eye has no peripheral vision in the lower left quadrant. The Optician was angry that my GP and Rheumatologist needed to get their act together. My left eye is at risk of rupture and she said shoukd I experience severe pain or total loss if vision I must got straight to M&E.

Oh my..... good job you went to get your eyes checked.

I recently visited spec savers to get my base line eye sight checked, they are very thorough when i mentioned taking hydroQ.

I hope your eye will correct itself.

So sorry CecilyP, and I'm very glad the optician was angry...read your last post and sincerely hope you can change rheumatologist. It's unbelievable that 600mg of hydroxychloroquine was prescribed AND that it's done so much damage

There's a new guideline from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists 2018* recommending 5mg/kg maximum daily, and that is based on 'optimum' or 'ideal' weight not actual weight (so it's a height calculation basically)...for others

Everything crossed your vision returns once HCQ is out your system and there is no permanent damage, and hoping there is need to go to A&E
