Hi, I’ve had 4 rituximab infusions and it all went very well and made a big improvement to my symptoms. Any new treatment is worrying especially when you’re still at such an early of your lupus journey but they monitor you very well during the infusions and most people seem to be fine. I react badly to a lot of drugs but didn’t to this one - although of course we’re all different. They’ll give you steroids and antihistamine just before the rituximab to reduce the chance of a reaction. Good luck with it - take something to do because the first one takes about 6 hours! X
Hi nancy , i have been receiving rituximab infusions for over 2 years now with great results. I did have some sickness and gastric pain after first infusion but it is now given at a slower rate and ive been fine. It does take at least 2-3 months before you see improvement and ive had more improvement with further infusions. It is a long day when they start , take a book or maybe download a film . At my hospital you get tea and a biscuit, sandwich for lunch and more tea , the nurses are amazing and keep a good check on how you are getting on . I get the number for a rheumatology nurse if i need help or advice, you are advise to be careful about washing hands and avoiding anyone who is sick as immune system can be lowered.
I hope things go well for you and that the rituximab works , best wishes xx
