Teeth advice

Hi can anyone give me any advice on teeth, some of you may recall me mentioning previously about my teeth falling apart and spending quite a bit of my time at the dentist which I have a major phobia of. Anyway for the 3rd time in 12 months I have a front filling come out. I just wish there was something that I could do to help. My nails are very bad condition too.

The only thing I can say is that things have improved now that my pred is down to 3.5 mg. previously I had several fillings fall out and there was decay underneath. I had never had trouble with my teeth for many years. I wonder if it was pred or maybe the Alendronic acid I was taking at the time.

Hi I wonder if it’s linked to the meds, I take various meds but this has only started since taking hydroxychloroquine. Problem is it really helps so if it is the case I have to decide which option is better.

Do you have Sjögren’s dry mouth at all? If so I’d be inclined not to blame the Hydroxichloraquine - which can really help the systemic aspect of Sjögren’s too. You may need to find ways to increase the moisture in your mouth. For me the best way has been learning to nose breath wherever possible. I am also dentally phobic so this insentivised me to look for ways to avoid them. My teeth haven’t given me any grief since I became a nose breather - although my nose is often dry and congested now!

Hi I haven’t been diagnosed with sjogrens but I do suffer with dry mouth yes. I also have asthma so breathing in through the nose is normal for me. Thank-you xx

Hi

I was recently prescribed a high fluoride tooth paste by my dentist for gum disease which I think as been caused by my very dry mouth . He said it should protect from further gum disease .and generally protect my teeth .

Thanks for replying, I can not use fluoride toothpaste every day as it makes my mouth peel really badly. There is always something isn’t there. Xxx

I have been the same, but I have had an upper denture and my lower teeth are not too bad. I found a good dentist who understands better than most and she knows I am very sensitive. I had to have teeth out 1 at a time in order to recover before the next one.

My nails are terrible, but I know my gut and organs are the problem and absorption of nutrients and digestion of protein is not good. I am working on it - takes time. Just as it takes a long time to get ill, it also takes a long time to get well again. Some of us have genetic problems and we have to be more careful to live a good lifestyle, i.e. not abuse our bodies with rubbish food, smoke, alcohol, over doing it, etc. Don't know if any of this helps, but hope you can get sorted soon.

Thanks, I am quite good with my food and I don’t smoke and stopped drinking when I was diagnosed and started medication. This hot weather is lovely in the shade but unfortunately it hasn’t helped the pain much. X
