TENS machine helping!!

I have been really suffering with muscle spasm upper back and neck and occipital neuralgia lately. I’ve had the ON before but been ok for a while but it’s back!! I’ve previously had nerve block injections into the occipital nerves so it’s been pretty bad!

Today I woke again with a migraine and pain at base of skull/nerves and decided to try my tens machine (I used to use one right back at the start when I went to pain clinic) and I must say that today it’s actually really helped. It seems to loosen off the tight muscles and helped with the nerve pain. It only really lasts while u have it on but can wear it for long periods of time.

So if anyone is struggling with a similar problem or fibro pain or anything to give it a try. I’m on slow release morphine anyway butwas about to take some extra when I thought I’d try that first and it helped! Pain and spasm still returns later on but at least I can get some relief!

I personally only have a little experience of a tens mashine had to stop as at the time I ventricular tachycardia! But please let me give you a giggle my wife was in labour with my first child and she had a t3ns mashine to help the pain and it worked so she said but as the battery got weaker I turned it up eventually the battery gave in and the midwife told me to go get some more so off I went got some battery’s and changed them the switched it back on angie my wife went into a spasm 2foot off the bed the midwife looked horrified and gave me the biggest bollxxxxx I’ve ever had and said you did turn it back down to 3didnt you I’d left it on 10 ooooooooh big mistake 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🙃we Laff about it now but at the time I was not popular

Thank you for the idea, I too get those terrible pains and there seems to be nothing helping. I will get hold off one, it would be nice to have something that would at least eas it.

Hi Sara,

I wish I thought of this treatment when I just saw the Pain Meds Dr. I'll have to remember it for next time. THANK you for sharing!

I also use microwave heat packs too for my neck, only thing is I don’t find they stay hot enough for long but maybe it’s cos I buy the cheaper ones from wilko??! Maybe if I invested in a more expensive one??

Hi

So glad you get relief from the TENS machine . I’d forgotten how much this helped me previously so will dig out my TENS machine tonight . I might be wrong but I think I was advised to us it in small burst of 20 mins (the machine I gave automatically switched of after this time ) of course I’ve used it for longer as the relief is great .

I can’t remember exactly why it shouldn’t be used for longer periods but I think it’s likely to start to aggravate the nervous system after a while . Good luck and hope you continue to have relief from one of the worst pains known to man !

I’m sure I read on nhs website u can wear it for longer?? So I best check?!! It makes sense to not wear it too long and on too strong tho!

My pain management programme was too long ago to remember what am supposed to do.

It helps my muscles to relax a bit, whether it’s cos I’m laid thinking about trying to relax dunno but who cares it helped!! Am meant no extra morphine or diazepam! Bonus
