high protein levels in urine

Hi everyone! I had a question. I was diagnosed about 2 years ago with UCTD and have been taking plaquenil since. Things are going well until I just did a physical for life insurance and it came back being high levels of protein in urine. Highest level for the range is 14 and mine came back in at 18. Could this possibly be Lupus? I didn't have all of the positive ANA testing and now I'm worried. Should I reach out to my rheumy or primary about this. Also I was fasting for about 12 hours, I peed on waking and then drank about 1/2 bottle of water so dehydration would be a problem I don't think.

Love to you all,

Josie

Just had a quick look at your other posts.

It wouldn't hurt for you to see a renal specialist. Don't waste too much of your time with a Rheumatologist when you should just be getting your kidneys checked out. The tests to check your kidneys are all simple - A good GP could do it. So make sure its done soon just to be on the safe side.

Hi Josie,

It is advised you speak to your doctor about this.

High levels of protein in the urine (proteinuria) can be caused by several different factors. For example, side effects of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen, fever, after exercise, kidney problems and a urinary tract infection.

According to The Lupus Encyclopedia, evidence of lupus nephritis can be identified through a twenty-four-hour urine collection or a kidney biopsy. To read our factsheet on ‘LUPUS: and the Kidneys’, click here: lupusuk.org.uk/wp-content/u...
