When you have lupus can you still feel hot with artificial light and can it still give you a rash and make your rash worse?

Hi.

Yes some Fluorescent lighting can do that. Hospital lights for me 😬.

Hi Lynne. as for your question. I find if I go to town and spend time under those tube lights I do get I'll, and yes they do burn my skin. I have removed them from the smoking room in my house and there is a marked difference in my health

Yes, they make me feel as though I have sun burn. My rheumy told me to use a high factosun cream all the time not just when going in the sun but when going to be exposed to internal lights too.

Hi jensen_lynne ,

I shared a link with you in a comment to one of your previous questions. You may want to have a read - lupusuk.org.uk/coping-with-...

Yes, artificial lighting (usually when it emits UV) can cause a reaction in people with lupus, including a photosensitive rash.

Hello Jensen Lynne,

I can confirm that many of us are sensitive to many different types of light, I found that Halogen lighting affects me and brings up the classic butterfly rash on my face.

I also found that, if I sat behind my computer screen for an hour or so, this too would bring up the same rash and make my face feel as if I've been sitting in the sun.

Lupus UK has some excellent fact sheets about lights and lighting and photo sensitivity.

There is a very good book, actually written by an American lupus specialist, called The Lupus Encyclopaedia that is well worth a read, although it can be heavy going, but it will answer all of your questions and more and will assist you in putting your symptoms and worries to your doctor once you make the appointment.

Please make that appointment soon because, if you think about it, if you do have Lupus you've already got it and the condition can be managed by healthcare professionals. If you don't have Lupus, then at least you'll know and hopefully, they'll be able to then make a diagnosis as to what you do have. If you do have a form of Lupus, worrying yourself silly will only aggravate it, so it is really in your interest to make that appointment and get it checked out.

We are a friendly and supportive bunch on here and I'm sure that once you've got an answer from the rheumatologist, everyone will continue to support and help you. Take care and make that appointment......Please.
