SLE carries Scleroderma. I lost pigmentation on my face..looks like a pale circle. Even my dermatologist didn't know what it was - but I do. It enevr came back. I get canker sores often as well....all part of the SLE!
I also have SLE/DLE and a few other auto immune problems and have had occasional small mouth ulcers and now vulvar ulcerated lesions. Although married to the same man for 20+ years every test for STD's, Herpes etc were taken and everything was negative. I went to an awesome Gyn, she examined me and then sat down and really explained things to me. If these lesions do not heal by April 2 she will do a biopsy for cancer. BUT...............she explained to me that if they do heal by then, and she believes they will I then have another autoimmune disease that sometimes goes hand in hand with other autoimmune diseases called Behcets Disease. (Hopefully I spelled it correctly). She said its very rare here where I am in the USA but she has seen it one other time and has heard about some other patients from Colleagues. Its more so an Asian/Middle Eastern Disease and in those Countries its primarily male afflicted. However, she said there is NO real test here to give me for the dx. We will see on April 2 when I see her again what it could be. To be honest, they still have not healed so I may be getting a biopsy done then. Take care and I hope you can get some relieve soon as they are extremely painful when ulcerated.
Hi so sorry you're experiencing this. I have APS and am on Warfarin and hydroxycholoroquinine. For mouth sores/ulcers, I immediately take Lysine at the first sign of a breakout and it works miracles! Sometimes I start with 3-4,000 mg. You can buy Lysine in the health food store and my rheumatologist approved my taking it.
I am going through a flare at the moment and i too suffer in the same way, i usually get the mouth ulcers and then a sore under my armpit and the same in my groin, sometimes one beside my tummy button. They become ulcerated quickly and the skin looks pale and greasy. After the flare is at its end sometimes these areas change to stripes of discoloured skin, it looks horrendus.I find that these patches come when my flare is at its peak usually for me it comes with blood clots and many many bruises. I am on Warfarin but as my blood is unstable anything can happen. This flare started with a drilling headache that was worse in the sunlight it became so bad that i spent most days in the dark thankfully i have marvellous GP and she sorted it out and four weeks later it has gone a new symptom for my Lupus journey. I would get your sores checked out at your GP and hopefully you'll be given something to help heal them. Take care and get plenty of rest.
Don't have a scrotum but have had the circular sores in my hair and on my face, hard to heal. They leave scars. The scar I have on my face is a different color that the other skin. The scars in my hair left change in pigmentation and bald spots. I also have had the mouth sores. The right Lupus specialist should be able to come up with some oral and topical solutions.
SouthSheilds,
You should ask your Rheumy about the possibility of Behcets Syndrome which is characterised by oral and genital ulceration.
It is a type of vasculitis and very difficult to diagnose ( average time 10 yrs ). It shares many features with Lupus. If you stay in England there are 3 Centres of Excellence for Behcets which your GP can refer you to at no cost to them ( it's centrally funded ).
I now have a diagnosis of possible Behcets after 3 yrs of being unwell. My diagnosis was ? Lupus for a while.
I also get mouth sores and sores inside my nasal cavity.I also have psoriatic arthritis and occasionally get sores or flares which involve naval area, perineum (I know I spelled that wrong), and behind ears/scalp.The areas from the psoriasis, which I actully have the skin version mild, arthritis version bad, leaves pigmented areas...Discoid Lupus, along with Bechet's can be possibility also...Do try to get your GP to set up a Rheumy app...
