Lupus & The Skin

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum but after reading a few posts I feel at home already, everyone appears so friendly, supportive and clued up on the disease.

I was diagnosed a few months ago after being referred to a Rheumatologist with suspected Rheumatoid Arthritis, I already suffer with Osteoarthritis and have 2 x hip replacements . Anyhow, prior to my diagnosis I have had an on-going issue with lymphatic fluid and a nasty leg ulcer which was healed with skin grafts a couple of years back. 12 months ago the graft broke down and I am now going through differing dressings / compression to try and get it healed, as well as the ulcer I have varying degree's of itchy rash from ankle to knee on one leg have been prescribed hydrocortisone and have been taking antihistamines for the awful itch.

Because of the ulcer I a can't be prescribed strong steroids for the Lupus and specialist has advised to get it healed ASAP so she can proceed with my treatment, currently I am taking Hydroxychloroquine and Celebrex

Wondering if anyone else out there has experience of Lupus and leg ulcers as at the moment I am going around in circles trying to get better.

Thanks in advance

Hi Debbiemay,

Welcome to the lupus community here on HealthUnlocked, i hope you're settling in well.

We have a free information pack available which contains a few leaflets and booklets on lupus and the symptoms. It also contains a copy of our 'News & Views' magazine which has details of our regional groups and contacts who are available to talk to by phone within your area, as well as general information and news on lupus and the community.

If you would like one of these packs, just send me a quick private message or an email with your name and address and i will pop one in the post for you. hayley@lupusuk.org.uk

If there is anything you need please do not hesitate to ask.

Best wishes,

Welcome to the site. I'm a newer visitor as well. You will find a lot of support and information. I am experiencing a lot more rashes and skin problems but not to the extent if ulcers. It sounds painful and I'm sorry you are experiencing this. I.ope you find the answers and heal quickly. Take care of yourself.
