Hi Hayley,
I have used Freedom Travel Insurance (see LUPUS UK website for further details) a couple of times and I have found then to be good, except that they are expensive. For peace of mind I think that it is worth it. I have been with cheaper firms and had trouble when I came to make a claim- they were very difficult and I didn't get as much compensation as I should have done.
Hope you are having a good day
Jude
Arh thanks for that Jude ! I just had a few quotes now & the best so far is All Clear that came up with £74 & thats for me & my Hubby. That's covered for lupus & renal transplant. It seems much easier booking over the internet now when you've got medical problems. Most illnesses are listed.
Thanks again Hayley x
Thanks to you for posting this info. I too have a kidney transplant for the last six years and have not bothered with 'proper' holiday insurance as it has totted up into the hundreds before now. I was very peeved to have to have renal failure included in the list of ailments and costed in when i have a brilliantly functioning transplant and therefore technically i do not have renal failure! Did you have any other ailmants to list other than Lupus and transplant? I am on blood pressure tablets so there's something to add straight away for insurance companies costings Can i just say that seeing you say that you're now up to 16 years post transplant made me smile for you and gave me hope that maybe i'll be at that figure one day. Sidney the kidneys anniversary, (yes named, how sad am i?) is March 8th and i always be in awe of my friend for their selfless and loving donation :0)
Sorry for late reply only just seen the post as had a yuk few days.
Please do make sure you have proper insurance it is very important when you have a transplant. Last year I was admitted to hospital in Tenerife & I did insure just for transplant & lupus because I knew that would cover most of all the other problems I have. Thank God I did because I was rushed into hospital with a sickness & diarrhea bug was put on a drip, cathetta etc. The treatment was second to none I cannot begin to tell you how easy & good everything was. They were red hot in looking after the kidney !The All Clear I just insured with do come up with transplant then ask if you take blood pressure & chloresterol drugs. So it was pretty straightforward.
I do have many more problems but when I declared some of them they hadn't even heard of them and few companies wouldn't insure me. I have neuromyotonia a nerve & muscle problem & I'm also on immunoglobulin treatment as my immune systen doesn't work properly.I have oesteoporosis too & imflamation in my hips I think with lupus it can cause so many problems anyway so as long as the insurance covers you for that you'll be ok.
Arh that's great six years, hope you get many more healthy years out of Sidney ! Oh the inrance companies do ask now if you had a living donor kidney because they are much better & more likely to last longer, mine was my Dad's !
All the best to you

Tremarel have a wonderful time. I'm off to Spain in March and am too looking forward to getting some sun, with sun protection of course ;0)
Lovely ! The sunshine does really perk you up doesn't it even though we all wear sun protection. Just to feel the warmth is so lovely. Enjoy your hol too! x
Essential travel covers Lupus and are very reasonably priced, they also give you the option to opt out of covering pre existing conditions, but still cover for everything else. No insurance will cover me for my complication of Pulmonary Fibrosis, but I still insure Lupus, Diabetes, and Asthma.
Arh thanks for that Anne, very difficult isn't it when you have so many health problems.
All the best to you God Bless
