Hi folks, can anyone recommend a good company for travel insurance? I have tried a few and either been refused outright or quoted a very high premium. Thanks!
travel insurance: Hi folks, can anyone recommend a... - LUPUS UK
travel insurance
Hi, I got my insurance from all clear. I'm sure I was about £360 for a 10 day cruise this year. I tried a few places and like you said, was either refused or were a lot more expensive
I use Staysure they cover if you have any medical conditions.
Hi there,
On my personal experience the lupus condition is not an issue when obtaining travel insurance but having emergency unplanned operations is.
Generally one planned op in the last two years puts the price up. But any unplanned emergency operations in the last two years makes it very expensive.
Recently a two week Caribbean holiday I was quoted only by one company at £2375 everyone else would not insure me.
So once the holiday is already booked and paid for in full cos its booked last minute you have to make a difficult decision!
What do you do? Not go, or risk it?!
Understandably they want to cover themselves on the likelihood of an issue!
Hope that helps and you have a great holiday.
that's a huge cost! It's quite a dilema. We have a USA trip as well as Europe this year and I am dreading the cost of that one.
The dilema was whether I went without any insurance! But the holiday was booked and paid for in full. I got back 3 days ago. Thankfully no issues! If you’ve had no unplanned emergency operations you will be fine. The comparison sites are very good. I would suggest you go for annual worldwide cover if you’re dashing around the globe! Not that I’m jealous!!! Have a fab time!!!
I'm glad to hear that all was well! The carribean sounds lovely! I've had a couple of very cheap quotes, but I look at the Trustpilot negative reviews of the company, I find they are not trustworthy if you need to make a claim. I'm going with a policy which excludes my conditions, and with my free GHIC card hopefully that's enough for Euope. I'm waitng for a couple of investigations and that has proved to be an issue.
I have used the Compare sites I have quite a few medical conditions and found them to be very good. I have also used the Post Office. Good Luck xx
Funnily enough my son recommended the Post Office, but I laughed as he is 30 something and very fit!
They are very good. A lot of the medical travel companies are so very expensive for the same cover! Have a ggreat holiday. I travel quite a lot as have family abroad in Turkey and Spain xx
Hi. I found PayingTooMuch.com the best cover and price for me. I did get quotes from All clear, Able2travel and FreedomInsurance. I got one years cover with PayingTooMuch.com for the price some were quoting for a single trip. Good luck shopping around. 🤞🌻
I've used Freedom Insurance, which I think was listed on the Lupus Uk website at the time I was looking, they specialise in insuring people who have existing conditions.
Hi, we have the Nationwide Flex Plus current account for £13 a month which covers us both for worldwide travel, mobile phone cover and breakdown cover. I have systemic lupus and am on mycophenolate . When booking a holiday abroad I ring them up and answer questions regarding my health and medications and they quote me for the trip which then covers 12 months travel abroad. In 2019 this was £88, we’ve just booked a cruise so I’ve rung them and my extra payment for the year is £49. Well worth giving them a ring.
Hi, I have booked a cruise for this November to Norway to see the northern lights. The travel insurance company I use is 'goodtogoinsurance.com'
I have other medical conditions which had to be declared and for the 13 day cruise the premium came to £179.37 which also includes full covid cover. (I am 68 this year so age will be a factor - if you are younger I think the premium should be less).
Good luck and bon voyage to wherever you are going to.
