My wife Stage 4 lung cancer, spread to liver and bones. Was admitted to hospital yesterday in terrible pain for days. NO treatments (radiation for bones, chemo for the lungs) to start before 2 weeks. CT results now show blood clots in the lungs. Giving her blood thinners by needle in her stomach, and stronger painkillers.

Doctor said alot of the cancer is is in the bones and not convinced the pain is from the clots.

I am under the impression that her original prognosis of 6 months without treatment, will be worse with the clots and the cancer in the bones.

I am worried, we must have the family unite and have good times, once she gets home hopefully in a few days.

Anybody else with clots in the lung and cancer in the bones.

I want to be prepared, regardless of how hard this is, and I know will get worse. We are in Ontario, Canada. Thank you.

Dear Enair

So very sorry to hear about your wife's cancer and understandably a very difficult time for you all.

Clots can occur with a number of different types of cancer and it is good your wife is getting treated for the clots and her pain at present. I am not sure how the health system works in Canada, but you could ask the staff to arrange for you to speak to the consultant. It can be difficult to know a timeline as many respond differently to cancer and to any treatment.

You may wish to get in touch with Lung Cancer Canada, who can provide support for you and your wife:

lungcancercanada.ca/

or

lung.ca/lung-health/lung-di...

This link will take you to our booklet on bone metastases, written for the health care system in the UK but if may be of help for you all: roycastle.org/app/uploads/2...

I hope you hear from others and find support in the forum.

You are welcome to email ask the nurse at lungcancerhelp@roycastle.org if you would like to discuss anything.

Kind regards

The Roy Castle Support Team

Hi Enair I'm sorry to read your news. I hope your wife starts to feel better very soon as she is looked after in hospital.

I have no experience of blood clots I'm afraid, but just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of you. For my husband, the chemo worked very quickly and very well on his lung tumours and all the bone metastases. He didn't have radiotherapy but I know this is very effective treatment for bones.

I know this next two weeks waiting for her to recover before starting treatment will be very hard for you both. Thinking of you.

So sorry to hear about your wife. I have Stage 4 NSCLC that has spread to two vertebrae, small area of liver and small area of brain which I've had radiotherapy for, it was successful. Had immunotherapy for lung tumour but was unsuccessful so now on chemotherapy. Admitted to hospital with suspected blood clot but turned out to be fluid which was drained. Did the CT scan definitely show blood clots.

Best wishes

xxxx

Yes CT confirmed blood clot, has lung tissue damage. Kidney not normal, so chemo may not be an option. Her first radiation is today. Without chemo, it will spread more, trying to be hopeful. I wish you all the best
