I had my first clot in my early 20's. My PE was exactly one week after surgery. I'm 29 now and was just dx with APS. Hope I can get in to see the hematologist soon so I can start back on anticoagulants. I'm feeling like a ticking time bomb myself. Moonbug, are you on thinners? I am interested to see the APS average too.

Hi thank you for your reply . Has your pe been your only clot to date. How comes you are not on thinners permantly? I'm only on 75mg of aspirin I do worry this isn't enough are you on aspirin? H x

Hi moonbug

I had my first dx dvt and pe in my early 40s. Was warfarinised after clot, then stopped. Then started on warfarin again after finally being diagnosed 3 years later. Only diagnosed after lots of pushing and visits to st thomas's.

Aspirin should minimise risk of clotting.

Please don't live in aps's shadow. I know it's easier said than done.

As a good friend of mine says. "Yesterday's history, tomorrow's a mystery and today is a gift."

Take care gentle hugs love sheena xxxxxxx :-) :-) :-)

Hi Moonbug

I had my first stroke at 16 and a second on at 28 was warfarinised after this second event and as jessie said mine was diagnosed after seeing St thomas. As you will see APS is not agiest or sexist as another common myth is it is a womans disease. I do think as it is still a new illness there is still a lot to learn but as i found out as long as you do not ignore the signs and symptoms and you being treeated i would not worry to much.

I was on warfarin years ago after my PE but less than a year. During my pregnancy I was on Heparin. Other than that I have not been on thinners. Since my suspected TIA a few months ago I started taking aspirin. I just got the confirmed diagnosis of APS this week. Waiting to see a hemotoligest really hoping it doesn't take too long. He's a few hours away so he better be good lol.

I had a query PE when I was 17, back in dinosaur time :-D, I had a confirmed DVT at 48, PE at 48, warfranised then and diagnosed 6 months later, so on warfarin for life. although it is suspected that I have been having small PE's most of my life, and this put down to asthma as my lungs so badly damaged. - But hey, I can smile :-)

Smiles and happy weekend to you all

My first DVT (which was misdiagnosed as thrombocytosis) was at age 33. I too was warfarinized until my platelet count dropped (2 years later.) Immediately I began to have migraines. Finally, at age 45 the migraines morphed into TIAs and strokes, I was Rxed and re-warfarinized. (I like this coined word, 'warfarinized;' it seems to capture the totality of the experience of learning how to be a slave to INR #s.)

I had my first clot at 19 in my arm and neck, a year later when I was 20 I had 7 clots in my lungs PEs, a dvt in my groin and was put on heperin and then on warafin, I switched over to lovenox when i was pregnant and stayed on that for 6 years after 4 healthy baby boys I switched back to warafin 6 months ago, now I am 32 and had a stroke 5 weeks ago from multiple clots to the brain. i am now on lovenox again for 3 months and whenever I transfer back it will be to the brand name coumadin and not warafin. my drs have told me coumadin fluctuates less and is easier to regulate. I have also been told I will get INR machine at home and check my INR at home once a week. I hate this constant time bomb feeling, I live one day at a time and try to make the best of each day. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

I had a major PE when I was 20, started as a DVT in my leg and will be on warfarin for life. Its good to read other people's stories and realise that its not just people of an older generation to myself

Hi. I was 38 when I got my first two (and hopefully) my last clots. Am now on life long anti coagulants, currently clexane, after clotting whilst on warfarin.

I too was surprised at the broad age range at the anti-coag clinic tho I suspect most of the younger people had clotted after breaking limbs etc

I was 29 when i had my DVT.
