If you plan on getting treatment in NC at UNC or Duke, research the doctors first. I live here, and have found that not all physicians are created equal :) Some Rheumatologists like to do their own testing, and if you're negative, disregard any previous test results done by any other institution. Hence, I ended up with PE's and clots despite previous positive test results.

I find rheumatologists totally useless. All they've wanted to do it prescribe steroids and lower my INR.

I see a hematologist at Mt Sinai. My wonderful hemo, who actually has APLS, retired two years ago. He's the one who taught me how to live with this thing.

My hemo is Dr Caroline Cromwell. She came to Mt Sinai from Yale and she is a coagulation specialist. I find her reasonable and smart.

She was at Beth Israel on 15th St, for about a year, then moved to Mt Sinai east a year or so ago.
