Blood work

Hi everyone. Went to get my blood work for my endocriologist. On the right arm the philbatomist took samples. She had a hard time, the flow was slow. A couple of tubes became hardened like clay, so she retested on the other arm and got the necessary samples. It was really strange. Even the color was a bit odd. Has anyone expierenced this?

Hi, I noticed you have just joined our forum, a forum specifically for those with a diagnosis of Hughes Syndrome/APS? Do you have a diagnosis of this? Hughes Syndrome/APS, or Antiphopholipid Syndrome, or sticky blood does often go with a Thyroid condition. MaryF

No I just tested this morning and the thyroid was on the list for testing. I am waiting for results. Just thought it was real odd.

Did your GP do all three of the tests for Hughes Syndrome/APS?

I have APS and take an anticoagulant. I've had lots of blood work done since my diagnosis in 2005. Last week I went to get routine blood work and for the first time, my blood clotted as soon as it hit the tube. The phlebotomist called me back in to draw another sample. That had never happened before.

Are you on Warfarin? What therapeutic level has your APS-Specialist put you on? What INR did the last bloodsample show?

Best wishes from Kerstin in Stockholm

Kerstin,

Yes, i'm on Warfarin 11mg daily. My range is 2.5-3.5. I was within range on the day of that blood draw with 2.7.

I have had my INR adjusted from that number you have to 3.2 - 3.8 in INR. If I am under an INR of 3.0 I have to take a Fragminshot. Have you discussed the PK with your APS-Specialist.

I had a lot of symptoms when I started warfarin even if I got my normal vision back at once. It took a while to get to the higher number but now when I am in range I do not have any symptoms, at least none that i am aware of.

What is PK? I never have any symptoms with either a low or high INR. I never notice a difference when my INR fluctuates. I'll mention the clotting in the tube to my hematologist.

In Sweden we say PK value or INR. I am not medical trained and can not explain.

My INR fluctuates all the time. I feel "slow" in mind and get difficult to see straight if INR too low. I selftest to have control. I am primary APS.

Yes once my nurse was in the vein but blood wud not flow, when she tuk needle out there was a clot there! She showed the other nurses and said she'd never seen anything like that! Not sure why that happened, but it was weird! There has always been a problem with my veins! I was once stuk 22 times b4 they got blood out! Also had to have sonogram to find a vein!
