Home baked Gluten free scones,

β€’20 Replies

Hi everyone,

Here's some scones I've just baked I thought that instead of making a dough and using a scone cutter that I'd make the dough and then roll it into a cylinder and slice that, its flattened it against the chopping board but its was really quick and easy and I like that, so these may not be conventional looking but I like simple country baking...

Here's the recipe: 225g Self raising GF flour I used doves farm 75g mixed dried fruit with peel 50g butter I egg 1 tablespoon brown sugar I tea spoon nutmeg a little milk to turn into a dough cut into slices and baked for 15mins @180C I cooked them on a baking tray with butter hence the lovely colour.

I had some home made plum jam given to me so can see that going down a treat with these, well thats the plan so I'm looking forward to this afternoons tea...πŸ˜€

Ooh scrummy. Actually slicing them like that is a good idea I always find they end up very uneven and difficult to cut

in reply to MadBunny

Thank you I do the same with biscuits, I thought it looked more like toasted tea bread but it tastes like a scone and thats what counts. 😊

Yes I tend to do that with biscuits too. Doesn't matter what it looks like as long as they taste good.

your welcome I love seeing your posts because my brother is on a gluten free diet because of his autism .He gets hyper after he eats something that has gluten for some reason . it makes me happy that there are recipes and not a limited amount on them .

Ooh they look yummy Jerry and the good thing about scones is they have very little sugar in them. I bet they taste really good. πŸ˜‹πŸ‘πŸŒˆ

Thanks Alicia that’s true and with lots of dried fruit are even tastier. πŸŒˆπŸ‘πŸ˜Š

I love dried fruit, we should next door to each other, we could share our foodπŸ˜‰

I made some yesterday and they were lovely, but they didn't really rise! Is there anything I can do to improve that?

in reply to

If you use baking powder and or self raising flour they should be OK, maybe the wasn't enough moisture? The main things is yours tasted lovely. 😊
