Hi

Should i be avoiding spinach? I read it can cause kidney stones and that everyone shoukd avoid it but i like spinach. Should we avoid spinach? I do eat it everyday but only in small amouts for breakfast.

I've been told it interferes with absorption of calcium or Vit D so not to eat if you're on the high dose of those, likewise no rhubarb

Hi Hidden

This article is interesting about the issue:

webmd.com/kidney-stones/kid...

It suggests eating or drinking calcium-rich foods at the same time, if you eat some oxalate containing foods, as the combination helps the body to handle the oxalates - but the article talks about many foods that contain oxalates, and you might find it interesting.

Interesting artical but scary at the same time as i eat a lot of animal products so not sure how true that part is.

Do you suffer with kidney stones?

There are two main types of kidney stone, if you ever developed one, they would tend to test and tell you what it was formed of. One is contributed to by a diet high in oxalates, which is the type people would be told to watch their spinach intake as a result of. But if that were the case, it would be all oxalates that contribute, not just Spinach.

Unless you have something else going on, it's unlikely that spinach would cause you to develop kidney stones, although I wouldn't go eating a high quantity every day. We need variety in our lives.

There are Many things that can cause kidney stones. I had them several years ago at the time I was Not eating spinach. Calcium can cause them too. If you think you might have them? You should see a doctor it could end up doing More damage?

No i have never had kidney stones. Its just i was worried if i ate it everyday i would. I prefer spinach to kale. I only eat a small amount everyday. I eat other veg too so i do have variety.

Do you eat your spinach raw ? You can cook them first.
