Whatever i have left over from dinner i put in a bowl with porridge, and any fat i have drained off from the meat i also add,i mix it all up and put in the microwave for a few minutes, and when cool i put it out on the bird table, and within minutes the birds come down and devourer the lot.
Along this time of year the birds are nesting and desperate for food to feed their young, and anything we can do to make their lives better is good.
All living things deserve a good start in life, and if i can help i will.

I agree - the birds need all the help that they can get.
We spend an absolute fortune each year on suet, buying 50kgs each time we order. I added it up one year and it came to over £500! I don’t do that anymore.. 😶 They also get sunflower hearts and mixed high energy seeds and apples. I keep buying grapes for myself but the birds usually end up eating more that I do. I chop them into quarters and they’re always eaten. I suspect there’s a hedgehog who loves them too.😊
The birds are always show their gratitude by pooping all over my car... 🙄Needless to say I don’t hang my washing outside at this time of year either!
Last week we inherited a bird feeder, after a hungry bird stole the whole thing from one of the neighbours gardens and dropped it in ours
I happen to have some goose fat at the back of the fridge (leftover from Christmas!) That I keep forgetting to use. I might mix it with some oats and scraps as you've suggested, and fill our "new" feeder!
I have a bird table and I darent add up how much it costs me to feed the birds over the course of the year. But watching them keeps my indoor cat amused as she watches from her catio ( I live on a busy bus route ) and the birds appreciate it. I always add in any fruit like apples that are starting to go a bit soft they love them
