Good morning everyone, we've had a great poll idea from Imaaan to explore why more members don't post food photo's.
We love photo's of each others food and meals on HE and have a very eclectic membership with differing food needs and choices.
What everyone has to realise is we all posted our first photo once and now enjoy sharing recipes and ideas with one another as we want to encourage/inspire all members to eat well for them and their needs.
As for comparing our meals to others we have to be careful with this as we take so many things for granted and often see others meals as more interesting than ours. I have felt this recently with some quinoa and buckwheat porridge photo's that I've posted because compared to Zest my bowls of porridge looked more like a bowl of slop and her hubby would be worried if he was presented with a bowl of my porridge. But this is exactly the reason that we should share our photo's of meals as we have so many choices and there are so many variations and a photo shows this diversity.
So please say what would encourage you to post photo's of your meals and we will see if we can put a poll together and explore this further and most importantly encourage you our members to participate as you the members are the community. We your admin team merely try to guide the community in a positive and wholesome way as we all have a common interest in healthy eating.
One of the most stunning food photo's that I've seen posted on a community was of a large strawberry in the palm of the members had and it was wow. Which shows how less can be better. 🍓
Hi Lavender54 then here's how to post a photo please see the screen shot, you type the title of your post in the header box then you write the script about your post then you have 2 smaller boxes one that says Photo click this hox and then you can download a photo from. your photo library and the box beneath this is to chose from one of our Topics.
I hope that this helps and I'd love to see your photo's of food.
Hi lavender54, are you trying to post a photo on a phone, tablet or computer?
I think it should be the same for all, but this is an image from my phone.
You attach a photo by clicking this icon, browse to where the image is stored, select it. It'll come up with a window asking you to add a description of your image, so do that, and hit OK, and you image should appear.
Some of my one pot meals taste delicious but don’t look great, especially soup can look like it was 🤮 !I just forget to take pictures but I will do when I get something that looks appetising 😀
Never! Your meals are always cheerful and appetizing. I think your post is the sumthin’ sumthin’ needed to get past the hesitancy of sharing photos. 👍🏼Words of encouragement are always welcomed.
I will post photos if I remember, usually remember after we have eaten!! Homemade veg soup for lunch today, chicken tandoori, salad and rice for dinner. I bottled my winter blackberry gin this week and I will cook the strained Blackberries with our own apples and make crumbles. That'll keep me busy today!! Alice x
Hey what lovely sounding meals Alice and you have been industrious so you enjoy your Blackberry gin that'll keep you out of mischief...🥂
Hi Jerry, I hope you won't mind my thoughts as just a guest member. I don't comment much on posts here as I am just a guest but in the background I really love to read about everyone's inventive and delicious recipes and I love to see the end result in a picture. I'm really bad at being inspired by cookery books which don't have photos. I need that visual end result to see what I'm aiming for.My favourite photos are often of the more exotic or colourful meals, with rarer ingredients, but I completely agree that there's lots of merit in one which is artistically pleasing of the most simple of foods, like the strawberry. What could be more inspiring to make you want to have a healthy breakfast than a beautifully presented bowl of porridge with a topping, whatever that might be, for example.

Hi Sue on the contrary we want as many thoughts as possible and you are more than a guest visitor you are a friend so thank you for this and the other week you had more likes to your reply to our poll then anyone has ever had before so you're a goodun'
I figured my poll suggestion was going to remain anonymous, so thanks for mentioning me I really like all the points that you brought up and even appreciate that used your porridge picture as an example in reference to comparison. Kudos to you for being open and vulnerable in order to encourage others to post.
When I was uploading my porridge picture I thought to myself it doesn't have all the aesthetically pleasing bells and whistles. That thought quickly left because I remembered the benefits of eating my variation of porridge at the height of my flare up. Since we are a community with members that struggle with one or more health conditions, I figured it would be nice for others to see what got me through my flare ups. Even though mine couldn't hold a candle stick to Zest's porridge, I posted anyway because we all have our own journey to healthy eating. More importantly, food is nourishing and delicious regardless of how its presented.
Im hoping that this post will open the floodgates for a discussion that will lead to an increase in participation and interaction from the 53,000+ members.
Hello Imaaan firstly thank you for this poll suggestion and we believe in open transparency so you deserve full credit for it especially as we've had such a great response.
I don't post meals if I dint think they look attractive and I'm also very aware of how LED lighting affects photo's pf food and can make them look less attractive.
You are also quite right that its what goes into our meals and not just how we present it.
We do have 53K+ members with around 3K contributing monthly so remember folks this is your community we the admin are only the stewards of the community and we all need each other.
I take some pictures of what my meals are here and there, but the pictures have to look really good and show how the meal(s) with the food look. Some pictures don't do the meals/food any justice. 🙂👍
As you know, I am a frequent poster of my meals here in HE, and I enjoy doing so. I love it when I see other people's postings, and I'm happy that you've done a post about encouraging people to post - it's lovely to see everyone's meals, and I am a fan of all your posts - your breakfast ones are always great, as are all your other postings.
I've relied on some of your recipes too - you are the King of Cakes!
Thank you Zest you are a star poster of HE and we all know that and respect you and your meal choices very much as you are an inspiration to all our members to eat well and have plenty of exercise. So thank you for all your great contributions you are indeed a star and I think I'm probably more of a cup cake...LOL 😊
Good morning Jerry, In response to pictures of meals etc, and whilst this is not a meal, it’s a picture of what it says on the ‘tin.’
I did some research recently about how to lower ones BP (as it was high at the time) through food and not tablets. Finding that Flaxseed and chia seeds helped, my subsequent purchase at a health food shop was for separate items.
As you can see Tesco had a mixed bag so thought it should be shared with people on this forum.
Whilst this works for myself, if anyone else has found ways to lower the blood pressure through food, it might be useful for other people too.
I bought some flax seeds with the vague intention of making some sort of low sugar flapjack but so far they have sat in the cupboard, what do you do with yours?
Well I would generally sprinkle it on my porridge or other type of cereal. If you are making some small pancakes just put a dessert spoonful into the mixture. Well there are a few suggestions. You may find your own use.
Hello Secrets 22, When you press the reply button there is a little row of options. There is one with a little mountain and ‘sun’ in an oblong. If you click on that you have the option of looking in your photograph archive or taking a picture.
This was done on my phone so not sure how it could be done on a laptop.
i dont use a mobile phone...i am a complete technophobe....but thank you.
My plates of food, generally, look like a war zone - not enticing at all 😂. I'm trying my best to engage here more as I find the largest majority of posters helpful and interesting. Will try to crawl out of my shell a bit more and get more involved .........
Hi Wulugu , others have asked this so if you check out these replies they should help. And thats great that you're happy to try as everyone will be happy to see your photo's. 😊
