NOT Exactly Healthy, but a Good Meal None The Less

Dear All,

Earlier today I went to my Local pub/ restaurant, for lunch. It is a Good venue, well spaced, and with fairly comfortable chairs.

I ordered the Hunters Chicken (a chicken breast covered in cheese, ham and bar-be-que sauce). This arrived, after about twenty minutes, along with a bowl of chips and a side salad. The meal was enormous, a huge piece of chicken- very good though! I did finish 'most' of it, along with some salad and chips- the 'cherry' tomatoes were gorgeous.

I went there with one of the Staff, I live in Supported Living, who had some chips- whilst I ate. I got 'talking' to an Asian couple, down from London... for the day!

Whether, or not, this meal was 'healthy' I thoughly enjoyed it and intend to do it again.

Hi AndrewT

Your meal sounds delicious, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. It sounds like a lovely venue too - nice to have fairly comfy chairs too!

That sounds good!I think having an enjoyable meal out occasionally, with people to talk to, is a healthy thing to do because it is good for a feeling of wellbeing - and whether it exactly fits what you usually see as healthy food is not important.

Sound good to me Andrew, good food, pleasant company and nice surroundings, what could be better for your wellbeing eh? xx

A little bit of what you fancy really does do you good, so long as it's every now and then... It's when you eat foods that are high in fat and sugars - i.e. the cheese and barbecue sauce - too often, that's when it becomes a problem 😬

I agree about the sugar, BBQ sauce is about 1/3 sugar, so should be a rare treat, but I couldn't disagree more about the cheese. I am pretty sure we'd all be healthier if we ate more cheese.

Don't get me wrong, Subtle_badger , I LOVE cheese. The truth is, though, it's loaded with saturated fat and I love my heart more . Or course, I still eat cheese, but sparingly 😇 And since when does a good chip need help? 😋

There is no evidence that saturated fat is bad for your heart.

Chips, on the other hand.....🤔

I have no problem with what she said. I assume it was out of concern for my health, as is my reply out of concern for hers.

I'm probably a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to discussions like this but I still believe in the old adage that "anything in moderation will do you no harm" This has stood me and many others of my generation in very good stead! I don't think it's so much about what you eat but how much of it you eat.
