Hi all, I wanted to share a video interview I just did with Dr. Tina Peers on the connection between good gut health and histamine levels in your body. This is essential watching for anyone concerned about gut health and healthy eating! I hope it's helpful.

Hello sq1111 this is very interesting so thank you for sharing it I didnt realise how histamine can affect our guts, we're keen on probiotics in all shapes and forms on here so thanks again for posting this and well done for your part in this, I'm impressed.

Jerry. 😊

Thanks so much Jerry! Comments like this make it all worthwhile. Sometimes I feel like I'm creating these videos and no one is watching. I hope it helps to inform some.

I too have found this so interesting, thank you for this it is much appreciated. Although I have PMR and been on steroids for over 5 years for it I have been told that there might be an overlap with Fibromyalgia.

Having looked up quite a bit yesterday about Histamine intolerance I am sure a lot of this resonates with me and various issues I have , so to start with I took an anti histamine last night and lo and behold my tubes felt clearer and I stopped coughing. This cough has accompanied me for years. Also recently noticed my tummy reacting to cheese ( been eating it to stop me eating sugary thing) I do seem to have IBS symptoms, along with lots of other things.

I think I will try and get a book about it all. Not sure at the moment I can find anyone to help. So, again, thank you,

Hi Lizwillis. Gut health is usually the root cause of histamine issues. If the anithistamine helped, then you likely have a histamine issue. Definitely worth looking into SIBO as a potential root cause.

Gosh, thank you for responding. What good timing! Funnily enough I was just thinking I need to look at the histamine connection again. So thank you all so much for your helpful input. Even though I am now taking prebiotics as well as probiotics I am still having issues with my tummy. So.... need to have a list in front of me of what foods to avoid as I rather think what I have been eating has been extremely aggravating. Not really a surprise! Since I have been on steroids for the autoimmune disease Polymyalgia for nearly five years, I think this is all connected but annoyingly when I am so tired and hurting and having brain fog I just can’t concentrate enough to get to grips with this properly.

All these responses have fired me up to have another try and see if I can get a better understanding of all of this. It is pretty overwhelming though! But thank you!

It's an interesting listen sq1111, I think this is my problem. There seems to be 2 distinct areas for me to pursue. Firstly there's the Histamine Intolerance where due to gut problems we don't get rid of the Histamine from the food we eat due to our bodies not producing the Diamine Oxidase in the gut which is required to get rid of the Histamine. I've tried supplementing the Diamine Oxidase but I didn't notice any relief of symptoms. The Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) is for me I think, the one to concentrate on. I already take a probiotic in the morning and have just instructed wifey to try and acquire a tub of St Helens Goats milk yoghurt (can I say that?) tomorrow as she's off out shopping, hope the panic buyers have left some in the fridge. I'll let you know if it improves my gut.

Hi Sotonowl. If histamine is your issue then probiotics are basically just putting an band-aid on your problem. Investigating the root cause might be helpful. Have you looked into SIBO?

Thanks for reply. I've had a look at the SIBO diet and also the Symprove that the Dr suggested in your interview. That was £158 for a 12 week course. The SIBO diet I looked at though does recommend the eating of some foods which are high in histamine, banana was certainly one of them. All very confusing isn't it.

I'm working with a naturopath right now. She recommends a SIBO diet and avoid the high histamine foods on it. I'm not going to lie - it's hard. SYmprove is really expensive and it might help your symptoms but it won't deal with the root cause which seems more often than not a gut health issue.

Perhaps have a look for goats milk kefir? We get ours on line.

The symptoms are like a roller coaster but the Goats milk yogurt I'm taking seems to be making improvements. Hope I haven't tempted fate there. I also take, Curcumin, Acidophulus (By capsule) Quercitin, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Selenium, Magnesium, Bromelain and Fexofenadine, surprised there's any room left for food. The goats milk yogurt is St Helens by the way. You have to be careful with yogurts as some aren't up to the job.

Also have a website I'm using to lose weight. Lost 1 stone 10lbs since end of January and walking 4 miles a day. Sometimes I feel really good, better than I've felt for years. Then there's the other times. Oh well, just got to keep going haven't you.

You do seem to be making a big difference in what you are doing. Can I ask what website you refer to, or is that not appropriate? I have put on huge amounts of weight because of taking steroids and would so love to start to feel better and help my poor body recover from all the assaults.

Don't see why not Liz, it's called mynetdiary. It gets a grip of you though. You enter your weight tell it what you want to get to and how long you want to give yourself to lose the weight and then it will tell you how many calories you can eat per day. Then you log each meal, their data bank has most foods in but you can manually enter your own if the food you're eating is not in the data bank and once its in the food will be remembered. It focuses you and keeps you driven.

I just do the basic one which is free of charge. There is a premium one but I don't know what they charge for it or what else it can offer, the free one is adequate for my needs.
