I’m looking for motivation and tips on sticking with a healthy eating lifestyle. I’m a “sugar” addict and I’m really trying to break the addiction and focus on healthier choices. I look forward to meeting you all and helping one another to eat healthier.

Hello Debbie2626 welcome to the forum and well done for introducing yourself and with open honesty. Sugar is addictive as it gives us a sugar high and stimulates reward receptors in our brain.
My advice would be to eat as wholesome a diet as possible so your body is packed with nutrients, replacing sweet sugary "treats" with grapes/fruit/dried fruit as you will still have sugar from the fruit but with the advantages of fibre and nutrients. I'd also stop eating artificial sugars and junk food and drink plenty of water.
If you do these things soon your body will adjust and feel the benefits, I find many shop bought sweet foods overtly sweet and sickly and make my teeth tingle, so are a turn off and not an enjoyable treat.
So I'd take it one day and one meal at a time and whatever you do don't beat yourself up for past mistakes or the odd slip up but remain resolute and imagine the new you that you really want to be and gradually work towards it.
Thank you Jerry! I can totally relate to what you’re saying. I’m forgiving myself for past failures and I know it’s a journey. I am doing exactly what you’re describing. I’m feeling confident this far but it’s nice to be in a group where others struggle with the same things. Thanks for your support.
I tried the cold turkey method before and it didn’t go well; this time I’m giving up processed sweets but allowing fruit and natural sugar from veggies. So far, so good. I’m down 2 pounds and I started 5 days ago.
I managed to reverse prediabetic blood sugars without giving up fruit Debbie2626 . I normally limit to two fruits a day one of them being berries but I still enjoy them all just not all at once! Sounds like your going about this very sensibly, good luck 😀
Hi debbie2626, I'm not new, but I'm struggling . I only need to loose between 7 and 10 pounds.it may as well be 700 it feels like a un climbable mountaain. I've lost my mojo 😩😩😩😩
I get to the gym for a workout twice per week and I walk 3 times a week but I’m trying to increase to 3 times a week for the gym. I work as a respiratory therapist so I’m on my feet 12 hours a day and typically walk 4-5 miles while working. We cover multiple areas and are up and down all day with trips to the emergency room.
I am used to it since I’ve been doing these long shifts for many years but I don’t think it really has much effect on my fitness but maybe I’d be able to see the difference if I started a desk job.
Sorry , I answered a question meant for someone else. I’m and I got an email stating that you asked a question. I realize now it was sent to me because I had responded to the same thread.
That’s easy to do but try and forgive yourself for previous failures and know that past performance isn’t relative to your future success! I remember the days when I was 7-10 pounds over weight and they slowly turned into 30. (28 now 😀). Baby steps, try giving up one good group that you know isn’t serving you well.
Found Dr. Douglas Lisle (& Dr. Alan Goldhamer’s) work* helped to further understand & learn how to break 💥🔨 sugar addiction (as well as other problematic food addictions). If cold turkey 🥶 🦃 isn’t working for you & ‘weaning off” sugar is proving extremely difficult 😖 , there’s lots of practical tips ‘n tricks to help us break the cycle ♻️ .
Lots of support & encouragement from lovely folks here. As Penel kindly noted persevere. [Perseverance gets us over the hump 〰️ .]

Concur with Jerry on each & every point:
. . • Brain chemistry 🧠 🧪 (& gut bacteria 🦠 / microbiome) have much to do with what we get ‘hooked’ 🎣 on.
. . • Our desire for refined sugars 🍩 🍭 🧁 (& artificial sweeteners) will fall wayside as their ‘sickly sweetness’ 🍬🍦🥤 becomes ‘unpleasant’ 😝 🤢 🤮 .
. . • Quit 🛑 “junk food” 🍔 🍟 🍕 🥡. (We can make our own homemade ‘healthy’ versions of these “fast foods“ with whole food ingredients that are not only more nutritious, but taste far better 🥙 🌮 🌯 . . . 😋 🤤 )
. . • Drinking plenty of water 🚰 💦 — filling, cleansing, thirst-quenching 🤗 .
. . • No need to beat ourselves up 😖🥊 over slips 🤭 . . . Acknowledge the error 😯 , forgive ourself 🙏 😌 , & move forward ➡️ .
. . • Yes, imagine 🤔💭 / visualise 😌 ‘the new you’ 💃🏻🕺. . . 👗 👙 💪 & work towards it. 🧘♀️ 🏊♀️ 🏃♀️
