My abnormal sunflower

Hi folks,

Some you may already know that I am growing a few sunflower plants and one of them is now flowering.

But the strange thing about my sunflower is that there is not just one flower on it but quite a few, I think I have 5 or 6 flowers on there right now! 2 are in flower while the other 4 or 5 are budding but close to opening.

Normally a sunflower has 1 flower on it only.

I think it has grown this way because I am special :).

Not only that but I think it has grown like this because of the composting me and my mum do. There are so many nutrients in the soil and along with all the nutrients comes lots and lots of worms.

My mum took the photo because it is difficult for me to get around to the right position.

The floor is uneven and theres not a lot of room due to more vegetation.

It's normal for a sunflower to have more than one flower, there are loads of varieties that do it, rather cool that it's on one of the tall ones though, you'll have to try one of the red flowering ones next year as well as your yellow one

Your post made me laugh Matt. I saw abnormal sunflower and I thought I need to check this out! Its a great example and huge. I think it must be all your composting you do that’s so healthy for your plants and making them thrive so it’s definitely worth all the effort. A special sunflower for a special person 🌞 Ali

Aww thank you Ali :).

I agree, I think it is because of all the composting I do :).

But according to ‘Easterbunny’s’ post above, it is normal for a sunflower to have more than one flower, there are loads of varieties that do that.

Well I do know that you can get sunflowers with multiple flowers but the thing is Matt yours have taken off with a gusto. I have sunflowers in my garden too but you wouldn’t know it as they never took off like yours have so I think between you and your mum you have the magic combination 🌞

Thank you Liz :).

Well my fingers are greener than they used to be and it’s not because I’ve been playing with paint either :). I mean, I used to be more interested in playing video games than gardening.

But for a few years now I have been doing a little of my own gardening and yes, my mum is taking excellent care of my little plot too :).

If she wasn’t around I don’t know what my garden would look like... probably an overgrown mess.

I have heard that we are going to be getting strong winds soon. I hope my sunflowers don’t snap.
