I have practically given up cow’s milk now and buy a lot of Oatly oat milk.
I had noticed that they do a Barista edition as well and assumed it was a coffee tasting milk but my mum was wondering if it was a milk specifically for coffee.
Anyhow, I ordered some more oat milk recently and also ordered 1 carton of the Barista edition.
Today I got the milks and the Barista edition does taste very nice and my mum was right when she guessed it may be a milk for coffees.
BUT...
I should have done a little research before I ordered the milk really cos the Barista edition has rapeseed oil in it!
I just assumed that because Oatly is an alternative milk brand that it would have healthy, natural ingredients in it.
There is nothing healthy nor natural about rapeseed oil and why Oatly add rapeseed to their milk is most probably cos they themselves are not well informed on the subject.
I will not be ordering any more in the future thank you very much.

Thanks for this I do not drink milk at all usually buy almond ‘milk’ have wondered about the barista version now I know I won’t buy so thanks. Not tried oat milk yet will give it ago when I shop next.
I used to have my coffees with cow’s milk but not no more... unless I go to a café or something.
I belong to a charity that used to have an onsite vegan café. My first order from the café was a latté and when I first tried it I loved how creamy it tasted.
I was told it was oat milk and from then on I am always buying cartons of oat milk.
There was one time when I was running low on oat milk and had to use cow’s milk again and I think the taste is so plain and boring.
I have also tried alpro’s oat milk and that is really nice to but the only thing for me is that it uses vegetable oils which are not good for you.
I am vegan, and I do buy alpro products so will look at ingredients list a bit more carefully because I agree I don’t want vegetable oils which I would not use to cook with etc so don’t want in my ‘milk’ product. Thanks for this as although I think I check ingredients and try to cook as much from scratch it shows that stuff can still get through 😀
Now that I am looking out for more veggie alternatives in the sake of health, it is always good to check the ingredients because even though some of these plant-based alternatives may appear as healthier some of these foods can still contain stuff you don’t want.
Vegetable oils are like a Trojan horse. The name is the biggest thing that makes it sound like it is completely healthy but the actual process of making/extracting the oils is in no way healthy at all.
I was talking to my dad earlier about the Barista edition of Oatly’s oat milk. I told him that I assumed right off the bat that it was a coffee flavoured milk but my mum was saying “Is it coffee flavoured or milk made for coffee?”. Then my dad said that it could be milk that gives you a frothy coffee.
I did have a coffee earlier on today and put some of this Barista milk in it. It didn’t froth up. Kind of disappointing in some ways. It’s just extra creamy.
I suppose it would be good for those who aren’t so big on coffee as it would take the edge off... in an unhealthy way though :(.
Yes rapeseed oil comes from the rapeseed plant but it is how it is extracted using solvents and so on that isn’t good plus also rapeseed oil is high in erucic acid which also is not good for you.
the Barista version contains oil so that it doesnt separate out when you add it to coffee and you can froth it up better. Now that coffee bars sell non dairy alternatives I suppose it made it easier for them to produce a coffee that looked " normal "
