My home grown cherry tomatoes 🍎

β€’29 Replies

Hi everyone,

Like lots of others I’ve been growing more fruit and vegetables, I bought 4 cherry tomato plants locally and they are doing so well, I’m also eating home grown courgettes and some blackberries picked at the back of me.

But these cherry tomato plants have so many tomatoes on them they are the best that I’ve every grown, they taste lush as they are fresh and organic, so I’ll be growing these again. You can’t beat home grown produce. 🌈🍎

I grow loads of tomatoes and have lots left at the end of the season. I freeze them whole after washing, don't blanch and they are lovely for soups and sauces in winter.

Great tip, I’m enjoying eating this fresh but when the main crop comes...πŸ…πŸ˜Š

What do you do if you have any green ones left?

Freeze those as well, not quite as sweet but adding tomato puree. Have been known to make green tomato chutney

I have been wondering whether green ones are any good for cooking, as I don't enjoy chutney as much as I used to! so this is helpful. I will try at the end of the season.

You can ripen them by putting them next to a banana, it gives off ethylene which ripens the tomatoes - or indeed other fruit.

They look fresh and healthy. Keep growing them. If you can produce what you eat, that is a great blessing. Cheers mate.

Ooohh that looks like a wonderful crop. I have a single tomato plant given to me by a friend. I didn't want to take it at first as I only have a small garden and my priority is flowers. But honestly I've got so attached to that plant. To me the process of it producing flowers and then these beautiful little round fruits appear is nothing short of magical. I could almost sit and watch it all day. Sad I know!

Hey thanks and I think its wonderful watching plants grow flowers blossom and fruit grow and these are so tasty, so I hope that you have a great crop and think its great that you enjoying growing a tomatoes in a pot. πŸ…πŸ˜Š

They look great Jerry. Glad it's working out as it's all weather dependent and this has been a good year. We were given lots of tomato plants in exchange for an old house so that was a good swop. They are all coming along nicely too πŸ˜€ what will you do with any green ones that might be left ?

in reply to Agoodenough

Thanks Ali they’re lovely and I’ll happily swap my surplus and green tomatoes for an old house like you did...😁

You can get very helpful information as well as seeds from real seeds.co.uk. Their website tells you when you can sow various seeds and when you can expect them to be ready.
