My Breakfast Today

I usually have my breakfast at work, and since we have a kitchen here I keep some food on hand for when I'm hungry. Usually keep things like: boiled eggs, fresh fruits, veggies, cheeses, nuts.

This morning I put cottage cheese in a bowl, and a handful of blueberries. I sliced up a small cucumber and a pear. I put some black pepper all over it, just a little.

I ate this for breakfast yesterday too (without the pear) and had some string cheese with it and a boiled egg, but today I left those items out.

However, I did have a handful of cashews afterwards.

I'm drinking only water. Trying to eat better than before.

Until recently, my morning breakfast was always:

Coffee with sweet creamer & Doughnuts.

Yeah, because at work, that's what all the guys enjoy every morning. But not me, not anymore. Time to be mindful of what I am putting in my mouth. Do I miss the doughnuts and sweet coffee? Nah, not really.

I read about your conditions as you described in the first post. Based on those information, this breakfast does not seem to be very good for you. In fact, removing boiled eggs and cheese and adding pears is a mistake. Again, adding cashew nuts is also not good for you. Yesterday's BF was much better. You have to eat good fat and protein. When you learn about LCHF, you will understand all these things and make a better choice.

Thank you Praveen55, I hope to learn a lot from your recommendations. I was reading up on pears and saw how that was a bad choice for me, I didn't know! Thank you for that. I would love any links to diet plans for the Low Carb diets. Thank you!

Spend sometime on dietdoctor.com website first. You will get lot of useful information there. Then, you can ask any question that you may have.

We have LCHF group here, you may join if you wish:

Bear in mind that low-carb also implies high-fat (or rather, higher-than-zero fat). You have to get your energy from somewhere, and if it's not coming from carbs then by default it must be from fat (protein is not a useful energy source unless you're a cat :) ). So as Praveen said, your other breakfast was probably better.

If you're prediabetic, I'd just jump in with both feet here. There's no point skirting around the edges of LCHF. Unfortunately a lot of people start off trying to incorporate mainstream "healthy eating" ideas (eg., "you can never eat too much fruit" or "you shouldn't eat too much saturated fat"). The problem with this is that mainstream advice is diametrically opposed to LCHF - there is no middle ground because so much of the received wisdom is flat-out wrong (or at least an oversimplification). Come over to the dark side! The food is great, and you'll get healthier on every metric you can think of.

I'm moving that way, believe me! My dinner was pretty good. Pork Chops fried in Coconut oil with steamed broccoli and a side of sauerkraut. Drank only water. Yummy!

Your breakfast sounds fantastic! I have 2 hard boiled eggs and a Greek yogurt every morning since it keeps me going until 12 noon and keeps my blood sugars even.

I'm learning.... gosh, so much to learn! I can tell you that I appreciate these forums already! I watched a Ted Talk already and researching lowering carbs to help with my A1C levels. I love eggs!

2 eggs are 12 grams of protein.😀👍

If you count your carbs., you can write down everything you eat and total the amount so you don’t get high/low blood sugars.

Hi WM, I think this looks a gorgeous healthy breakfast to me and much better than doughnuts.

I'm not pre-diabetic and Praveen55 does make some very good points here and like you I'm fascinated by sugar spikes as I love fruit as a treat/snack so I have found this thread very interesting.

I'm not trying to lose weight as I'm lean and my favourite breakfast is poached egg on home made GF bread with baby toms and mushrooms so I start the day with protein carbs and veg and it sets me up for the day.

There is a massive difference to the good and natural cholesterol in eggs and the bad saturated fat and cholesterol in doughnuts and the like.

I eat myself healthy and live on whole foods and quinoa is a great and complete food and well worth introducing to your diet as quinoa contains all the amino acids our bodies need to function. One problem of eating processed foods is they are high calorie but low on nutrition so people are over fed and under nourished and to lose weight your body must be well nourished.

Here's a link about quinoa:

I wish you well with your quest to eat well and lose weight and you're in great company on here for all things healthy eating and nutrition, so I know that you can achieve your goals as you've taken the first step and I wish you well and look for ward to more of your posts.

Jerry. 😊
