Hi everyone, I’ve been a yo yo dieter for about 20 years! Successful sometimes and then I slip back into bad habits and put the weight I’ve lost back on! The thing is I feel so good when I’ve lost weight and feel good about myself and then I think I get complacent! I am a type two diabetic and have been for about 10 years, 47 years old and need to get myself in good health, lose weight and be healthy.
Today is day one! I hopped on the scales this morning for the first time since September and I have actually lost a stone which I am happy about and that’s the encouragement I need to carry on with my weight loss journey. My friend told me about this site and I am looking forward to being part of a network with people on a similar journey.

Welcome to the Healthy Eating forum. Wow, Congratulations on losing a stone in weight, that is really GREAT! I hope you enjoy looking round the forum, and seeing what interests you - we have various Pinned posts and Topics.

Welcome. you'll find two types of advice on this forum. One advocates a low carb diet to avoid insulin problems and thus leave you with the problem. The other (which I advocate) is that your body can relearn how to process insulin properly and thus remove the t2d issue from your life forever. If you are interested in the latter approach I take a look at masteringdiabetes.org/. I can provide other links that may be of help, just ask.
Free video & podcast information about Type 2 Diabetes from Cyrus Khambatta & Robby Barbaro (whom andyswarbs kindly referenced above in "Mastering Diabetes"):
Both Cyrus & Robby successfully manage their diabetes & share their experience (& abundant free 🆓 information) with Type 2 (& Type 1) diabetics. [From post: healthunlocked.com/healthye... ]
. . . • Douglas Lisle ”Pleasure Trap" video that JAS9 kindly linked to (at post: healthunlocked.com/healthye... ) may also help address the yo-yo dieting trap (which many of us fall into) & explains how to work through it.

Amongst Cyrus Khambatta, Robby Barbaro, Neal Barnard, & Douglas Lisle you’re in very good hands ✋🤚 , Marley2007! 👍👍 Wishing you the very best. 😌 🙏 🍀 🌺 🌞
Hi Marley2007, welcome to the site, and good luck with your weight loss journey! Congrats on losing a stone so far
As Zest says, there is also an NHS weight loss section to the site, that you might find a great resource in helping to keep you motivated with your weight loss journey as well!
Hi Marley2007, firstly welcome to HE and you're in great company on here for all things healthy eating and exercise. So thanks for introducing yourself as we're a friendly forum with a positive goal.
In my opinion you want to change your relationship with food and realise that the foods you eat that make you put on weight are not treats but are actually making you unhappy.
As well as joining WL you might find Fasting and Furious helpful as intermittent fasting can help us reset our relationship with food so we appreciate what we eat and why and when.
Diabetes can be put into remission, and as a bonus you'll lose weight. Have a look at the Virta Health website. They're a commercial clinic - their business is selling a dietary-intervention package for diabetics which has an astounding success rate - but there's a lot of free information on there. Also, have a look at the Diet Doctor website, which describes a similar approach. Again, Diet Doctor is a pay site but there's absolutely no need to sign up because everything you need to know is in the free areas.
After ten years of being diabetic, you will have some pancreatic damage due to glucose toxicity and your chance of regaining full function is rather slim. However, by following the Virta/Diet Doctor protocol, you will be able to live a normal life, without worrying about your diabetes getting worse. And as mentioned, you'll inevitably drop to a normal weight range.
