Apple Cider Vinegar

Hi folks,

I’ve heard the stories of how Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) is great for weight loss among other things however I don’t think it is.

I didn’t take massive amounts of ACV, mainly added a little to my coconut water in the mornings and evenings but I am no longer doing that and I shall just use ACV for external use. I add a bit to my bath water.

One thing I loved about coconut oil was oil pulling as this not only cleans your teeth and ‘pulls’ out the bacteria between teeth but also made my sensitive teeth feel less sensitive.

After taking in ACV as well as the oil pulling, I noticed that my teeth were feeling a little sensitive too cold and some of you may know that I am in the middle of remineralising my teeth naturally via calcium, vitamins A, E and possibly K/K2. as I feel my teeth have worn away slightly.

Upon looking at some random website about ACV eroding teeth, I’m no longer going to bother with ACV.

it’s been a few days without ACV now and I can feel a slight difference in my teeth and I don’t need ACV for weight loss either as I am apparently losing weight on fruit and veg alone.

Quite a few years ago, I was quite a chunky monkey and I lost a lot of weight (mostly back fat) through eating more fruit and veg.

In conclusion I wish I never added ACV to my diet cos I feel it had slightly made it worse.

ACV may be great for other folk but it didn’t really do much good for me.

As I say, I’ll stick to external use and add a bit in my bath water as it is good for the skin and it is great for removing stubborn stains on work counters for instance :).

Hi Matt2584

I'm interested that you add Apple Cider Vinegar to your bath water. I have read the other things you mentioned about it, but not about the effects on skin. I agree it is great for cleaning, but I wouldn't use ACV for that, due to the fact it's more expensive than cheaper vinegars.

Your post is interesting, and I enjoyed reading it. I hope that your teeth are improving as time goes on.

I think it was a fad thing. I tried it, and I was aware of the issue with the teeth. So, not very smart. I do like oil pulling. I also find it whitens teeth.

I did the coconut oil in coffee for weight loss. Another fad I think.

Now I'm off sugar and doing intermittent fasting I've lost 16 pounds over the last couple months. I think I will stick to that.

Glad your off the sugar intake.

You won’t be able to shift any, or much, weight if a person is consuming sugar.

I definitely had a sweet tooth. It's gone now.

I feel great

Same. I had a massive sweet tooth as well.

After reading years ago about the detrimental affects sugar (refined sugar) can do to the body, I practically dropped sugar like it was hot :).

Sugar is very addictive and has been classed, by some, as an addictive drug like cocaine.

I could easily eat a bag of dates rather than a bag of Galaxy Minstrels now :).

I haven’t given up sugar entirely though, there are still times when I might ingest it when I don’t actually realise it and how I could tell? Well, my teeth usually let me know. I can sometimes feel the nerves in my teeth retract when they come into contact with sugar :).

Hi Zest,

As I was saying, I only add a bit of ACV to my bath water and it doesn’t ruin the skin or anything like that. Actually I think it helps clear the skin.

My skin was quite terrible, especially on my face. It was getting dry a lot and I was a little spotty and my skin was a bit bumpy.

I tried all sorts of things to put on my face including aloe vera which is said to hydrate the skin but a few minutes after putting it on my skin would feel dry and scaly.

Anyhow, I put coconut oil on my skin now and

ACV in the bath water and I find this combo really helps. I’m not so spotty, dry and bumpy skin now :).

Plus I also use a very good soap from a company called Primal suds.

Their soaps use a combination of coco oil, clay, essential oils and so on. Really good stuff and all natural too.

Hi Matt2584

If you feel like it is affecting your skin then stop using it.

It hasn’t affected my skin thus far but if I do feel like it is slowly affecting my skin then I shall stop.

I get Bragg’s organic ACV and even on the bottle it has suggestions by Bragg’s by adding ACV in salads and other ingesting ideas, even putting some on popcorn which sounds interesting. But it doesn’t say anything about adding it to bath water, but this does not mean you can’t add it to bath water.

Good idea that you’ve stopped putting it on your teeth, as it is very acidic. But ACV and olive oil make a very tasty salad dressing.

My lunch today had home made hummus made with cider vinegar.

(btw isn't nearly all cider vinegar made from apples?)

I suffer with low stomach acid, so sometimes take apple cider vinegar before a meal to help with digestion. Like you, I worry about what it does to my teeth, although some say to drink it through a straw to bypass the teeth. I've not tried it myself.

I do like to use if for salad dressings and pickling veg too :)

If I recall rightly, the weight loss aspect is that some studies showed people put a little less food on their plate after taking some ACV - can't say it made a big difference for me, but when you know the outcome, you can unwittingly spoil the experiment.
