Nut crackers

Hello I live in Wales. I try to eat healthy because I have diverticulitis. At 83 I am doing alright but I need to buy nutcracker because my wrists are painful and weak. I know that I will be getting nuts in shells given to me very soon. Does anyone Know where I could buy nutcrackers that I would be able to use. I have looked on the different sites but every site seems to have only the type that needs lots of strength to crack the nuts.

Love it if someone could direct me to the right site so I can benefit from fresh nuts in shells.

Thanks from Adeliene

PS/ If your limited physically always have a go.

Hi Adeliene

I buy my nuts 'ready-cracked' and store them in the fridge to ensure they keep fresh - I can eat the nuts directly from the fridge that way, and they taste really good.

I have limited experience of 'nutcrackers' - except at Christmastime when I do sometimes shell a few nuts - and I find it 'challenging' even though I consider that I have reasonable wrist strength, so I do sympathise with your wish to shell them yourself - and clearly it is difficult for you to do so, with limited strength in your fingers and wrists etc.

I can see that you've already considered different websites, and come across the problem that there aren't any to suit your needs. I understand that you wish to have fresh nuts in shells. Maybe someone has a solution out there, but I would suggest trying nuts that have been pre-shelled, and storing them in the fridge or freezer for freshness.

Welcome to the Healthy Eating forum, and I hope you'll enjoy participating here.

Hello Zest, Thank for you reply, I think I will have to give up on cracking the nuts myself. I will get the shelled ones from the supermarket. I have my daughter who pops in and lots of her lovely friends who are always ready to help me. I have all of their phone numbers in my old phone and they are fantastic. just like to be as independent and healthy as possible. I will keep looking for the nut crackers on line. Adeliene

Another option might be to try to find a friend, or relative, who might be willing to help you to crack some nuts - maybe over a cup of tea and a chat.

Whatever you do, I hope you are able to enjoy some nuts and that you have an enjoyable day.

Hi Adeline, just to say that you can buy electric nut crackers, I think if you're 83 with diverticulitis and doing alright then you're doing well and you've a reason to ask others to crack some nuts open for you.

I wish you well and hope you enjoy being part of our community. ,

Jerry 😊

Thanks. I will look into getting electric nut crackers, the time will come when I have to ask for help. But I would like to crack nuts myself.

P/s I wish I could put a smiley on my message. That is something I have to learn how to do. Adeliene
