Putting on weight healthily

I'm slightly underweight so would like to add around 5 kilos, but also have high cholesterol. I've just started going to a Personal Trainer to help build my upper body strength and she has said I could do with increasing my protein intake.

Does anyone have any recipes for protein bars which are high in protein and reasonably high in calories but without too much saturated fat?

Also, any ideas for breakfast, again which are high in protein but without too much saturated fat?

Many thanks in anticipation!

Laurence

Hi lozfuller ,

If you like eggs and Greek yogurt, you can always have them for breakfast. I do this every morning. I’m on the low carb high protein diet. Please ask your doctor if this will help you before you start anything.😀

hiya, you could try the classic almonds and dates whizzed up in a processor if you don't mind sugar (albeit natural sugar in the dates along with other good stuff) you can roll it into balls, press it flat and slice it up, Coat it in high cocoa chocolate add other things like bits of high cocoa chocolate or cocoa nibs, other nut pieces, spices Like cinnamon, nutmeg etc.

If these are going to be a regular feature of your diet, it's worth finding out more about the ingredients though.

nutritiondata.self.com/ this is a handy website but it's best used for ideas or inspiration rather than self-prescription. It's usually best to run things past a professional or two. ( which I'm not )

Good luck.

Opt for nuts (not peanuts) & seeds as snacks. Almonds have the highest protein, walnuts, chia & linseeds a good balance of healthy oils.

Add avocado to as many things as possible. I use it instead of butter, & it can be whipped into a mouse with raw cocoa powder.

I posted some healthy snack bar recipes last year.
