Newbie: Hi I'm Deborah I suffer with... - Healthy Eating
Newbie
Hi Deborah,
Welcome to the Healthy eating community - I was wondering if you had seen the information pages from NHS Choices about Diverticulitis? Here are a couple of link pages that you might find helpful:
nhs.uk/conditions/Diverticu...
patient.info/health/diverti...
Also, if you put the word 'diverticulitis' in the search window (top right) - you can find previous posts about that subject, and there may be some healthunlocked communities that may be of interest to you - maybe the IBS community for example, as they have a few posts about diverticulitis as well.
Wishing you a great weekend.

Firstly I would suggest that you need to understand the complication. If you go to healthscams.org.uk/divertic... You will find a detailed description of the disease as described by a consultant surgeon who was a specialist for that. Generally speaking you must increase the bulk in your food by eating plenty of fruit and vegetables also 100% wholemeal bread. You can also add a little organic wheat bran to your food to ease the passage of the matter; sprinkle it over a salad or anything else you are eating.
Broadly speaking it is a disease caused by the food we eat. The surgeon I mention above once said during a talk he was giving that it would do you less harm to chop up the cornflake packet and eat it rather than the cornflakes themselves.
I hope I've helped. Tibbly
Thankyou totally agree with the cornflake thing has much as I live them I now stick to oats with fruit I will look up and read about this consultant thankyou x
Good to know! I consider most all "diseases" are caused or affected by the foods we take in, including how those foods are grown (with/without pesticides, or what kind used) and "out" processed. For instance, white sugar where the nutritive part is the molasses, and/or flour with the bran are processed out. I've noticed quite a few improvements since going whole-food organic, so I'd suggest that basically. Some supplements like magnesium may be of help also.
In today's world where food production is done mostly for profit you are right about supplements and magnesium is certainly one of them which has value for heart stimulation. The bran of wheat has gums which are good for bowel action however it important that it is organic as wheat which has been sprayed often retains some of the chemical in the bran layer. Another trace mineral that is missing from our soil is selenium.
We tamper with our food at our peril.
Try to go organic. Tibbly
Thankyou for your help I will look into these sites many thanks x
