Athletes and body-builders will tell you to eat plenty of protein to build strong muscles.

Protein is found in Meat, Fish, Eggs, Cheese & dairy products, and also in Nuts, Beans & Pulses (peas, broad beans etc).

You also need some energy foods to fuel your fitness training; have a banana before you start and some oatcakes or flapjack afterwards which provide a slow-release energy source.

Go easy on high fat and high sugar foods as these might put fat on instead of muscle, and won't give you the energy you need to train.

You really need to be eating enough to fuel your body and complement your workouts. Make sure you are eating high quality proteins like chicken, red meat and fish, complex carbohydrates such as sweet potato and brown rice, healthy fats such as nuts and avocado and loads of nutritious vegetables. I would cut out all processed foods to ensure you are refuelling the right way and giving your muscles what they need! It can be difficult at first, that's why I use a recipe box service called Mindful Chef because they send all the pre-portioned organic ingredients straight to your door so you can cook up healthy meals in under 30 mins. All of them have been checked by a nutritionist and are perfect to compliment your exercise regime. Check them out here: mindfulchef.com
