Feeling old, tired, creaky , fat, body wise .
Feeling young, energetic, fit, and slim in my mind.
I want and need to bring the two statements together somehow.

Follow a whole food plant based diet. Read the works of Dr Esselstyn (just google it). Not only will you lose pounds you'll feel better in ways you can't imagine. I follow it for different reasons & will say as a previous high protein meat eater....it's changed my life for the better. Give it a go. ps my cholesterol went from 6.3 to 3.1 in 9 weeks - no meds
GOOD FOR YOU!! It took me 25 years to get really serious about it, and it's taken over eight months so far, but I'm still working on it...and for the same reasons, along with worries about diabetes, depression, and inability to lift and do like I use to. I started with greensmoothies.com, where they encourage you to just drink one green smoothie a day, every day, to start. They were so good, they got me hooked, so it's been easy to keep going. After 6 months, even though the scale said I hadn't lost appreciable amounts of weight, my clothes were fitting better, and I was SO MUCH HEALTHIER and stronger and feeling better about myself--and my chronic depression had DISAPPEARED!!
Giving up ALL processed foods has been really difficult, but that's the trick for me to lose the weight; during the weeks I'm "good" about no processed foods, I lose weight. When I give in to cravings, not only do I not lose weight, I can also see it in how clear my skin isn't, for a few days, and in my general mood. But one food at a time, the cravings get better, and eventually I find I either just don't care whether I eat it or not, or the thought of it actually becomes repugnant and disgusting. So, let me encourage you--it does get easier!
As a side note: It has never been my actual intention, but I find I'm leaning more and more toward a near-vegetarian diet.
Have you had a look at the NHS 12 week weight loss plan. Its got its own forum here. At the same time as learning all about healthy eating, you get to loose weight and it encourages us to get active. All of which means we feel younger, more energetic, slimmer and we are healthier to boot! Whatever you want to achieve there is a lot of potential in the program. (Saves me loads of money too! - mind you I'm starting to have to buy new smaller clothes!)
Take it easy on yourself.
There no point trying to be too radical with your body, it will only crash and you will end up in a worse place.
I am on natural unprocessed foods and loosing weight nicely at about 1lb per week.
Natural diets, unprocessed foods, foods without added sugars, reduces what you can eat to about 5% of what you were eating before.
My personal plan includes breakfast with oats, nuts, seeds, and dried fruit. Carbs for lunch, usually potato, and lots of veg, lentils, mixed grains for evening meal.
However, i snack on fruit throughout the day so that i never feel hungry.
My own personal philosophy is that fish is a more natural product than vegetarian processed foods.
I wouldn't advise anyone to jump in at deep end, make a couple of changes and see how it feels.
Two changes i would recommend are no more fizzy drinks and squashes, and no eating between 7pm and 7am. Neither, are easy, but you will feel better.
Quick thanks for the tips from other members v much appreciated. After shaky start mostly on the wine front! I am on track at last nothing processed for last 5 days and im 5 pounds down too. A good start i know this will slow but encouraging all the same. X
