I'm sorry you are struggling.

Reading posts when we are struggling can certainly be upsetting.

Is there something specific you want to share?

I wanted to but now I’m feeling stuck

That's ok.

Sometimes we just need to know someone is here. You don't have to talk until you feel 100% ready.

It sounds like you are experiencing symptoms of a panic attack. Have you worked a coping skills plan with your five senses?

When I am having a triggered moment I use essential oils for smell (lavender or citrus scents work for me), use running water on my hands or lotion, watch a calming you tube meditation with soothing sounds and either walk/pace or lay still depending on my exhaustion.

It is easy to be fooled by your family. Unfortunately I had to disown both of mY parents this year, even though I moved 2k miles to be near them again. I get it. I had to put up boundaries and they diednt even acknowledge them or my conditions. Sometimes people are toxic and we need to do what we can to keep our own mental health safe. Remember, your happiness matters too. Relationships with toxic people are not worth fighting for if they are not willing to put in effort as well.

If you find yourself in this moment again, and if you’re in the United States, you can call 988. They help guy using grounding techniques. I do the senses one 5,4,3,2,1 or have a list ready of things to be greatful for. Sometimes I look at a burning candle and how the flame dances, or even utilize my esd animals and just cry. It’s ok to not be ok. We all need to get emotions out, as long as it’s safely. It is quite healthy.

Hi,

I am so sorry you are struggling right now.

It is very tough to be in that place. Sometimes it helps me to tell myself it's okay if I'm not okay.

I do different puzzles to try to focus away from trauma response.

Sometimes music can be helpful.

Sending support and hope...

SparkleGrace profile image

Puzzles are a great idea! That works for me also.

Thank you yes I definitely try different things to distract my mind and music for sure is soo good

I'm sorry you are in a difficult place. As someone suggested, I also play mind games on my phone to distract my mind when I am in a spiral. I also find relief in writing, whether that's a place where people can read it or in a journal just for myself.

For me, getting my thoughts and feelings out on paper or to a friend helps me sort through them so that I can work through them. Sometimes, my thoughts aren't always rational, and I need someone to help me see a different perspective. I tend to overthink and internalize.

There are so many people here who are not only so kind and helpful but because of their different experiences, their advice is helpful. It's refreshing.

I hope that you can either find something that clicks for you or find someone that you're comfortable with to talk to.

Know that you aren't alone, though. That's one of the best things about this place.❤️

I just read your reply that you are having racing thoughts and difficulty sleeping. Do you have strategies to help break those racing thoughts? What do you do to help yourself sleep in a healthy way? Deep calming breath, Breathing into a bag if necessary to get calm, warm bathes, calming music, calming thoughts, humming, chanting. Are you seeing professionals to help you with your PTSD? Call them now and tell them what is going on. In the meantime do what ever keeps you grounded. Walking, gardening, physical activity hopefully outside. Do you have someone who can just be with you and help calm you. Stay way from any one or anything you find upsetting. I have had the racing thoughts and trouble sleeping. For me that was I sign I needed more help. I am digging my feet strongly to the ground and sending you calming loving thoughts.

thank you I’m trying everything I can think of I made mistake of just trying a free counseling hotline and was terrible the person didn’t care wasn’t kind and kept telling me that couldn’t hear me but my connection was fine they were strange and I feel defeated after all the work trying to find the number -also I just want to feel safe and ok enough even to find a dr or therapist and I did trying the humming thing a littl last night I felt soo sad tho that I kept crying through it until I was way exhausted finally drifted to sleep

I am glad you got some sleep. Taking care of you is number 1. Sorry you got the wrong person on the helpline. Frustrating that it is hard to get the help you need. I like how you are making feeling safe your top priority. One thing that helped me was to create a safe place in my head. I only invited the people and objects that helped me feel safe. I send any hurtful or negative thoughts as far away from me as I can. I also imagine myself surrounded by my favorite color that makes me feel safe. I also listen to calming music on you tube. I have a meditation tape that I listen to that calms me. It repeats in it in a calming voice...Negative thoughts will have no influence over me. I am healthy in mind, body, and spirit. Visualize yourself being healthy. Being loved. Believe in yourself that you will get through this. Heal for yourself. Surrounding you with loving thoughts as you find your way through.

I just read your feed and it sounds like your nervous system is still really fragile. When mine was at its worse, it drove me insane. I can still be triggered now but I’ve only had 1 event this year so far so I am thankful after 4 years of this. Read about your vagus nerve and somatic experiences. Soothing and stabilizing is so so important. Big hugs!

I do feel it’s worth noting that panic attacks/anxiety are the mind playing tricks. I was told years ago to ‘accept them’ ! As in …say out loud, ‘I know what you’re doing and I accept why you’re here’. So I’m other words, just feel it all, accept it and then try to think / speak/look at something else. Telly, phone, call a friend/family member. But don’t try to ignore it is the key. Don’t try to wish it away. To worry it won’t pass. Because it will! Your body will become tired. Will calm. And when it does….remember that …you did it again. You got through it. Each time you do that you are telling your brain that you’re not afraid of it. Eventually I found I was less afraid of feeling afraid! It’s a long road but it’s not your fault. The body and mind are super complex. Be sure to get into fresh air, walk, run. It’s vital. Anything in nature is calming.

I hope you feel calmer and stronger today. Try not to fear the next time. If it happens try to say ‘okay hi, you’re here again and that’s ok. This too shall pass!’

Just listened to an interview with Sachin Patel. He had some great breath work exercises I am planning to add these exercises to my health regime to help me to become and to stay calmer for my health.

What goes on in the gut can affect your mood. For now are you staying away from processed foods, alcohol, sand sugar. These foods can aggravate how you feel in a negative way. This time of year it is hard to get enough Vit D. If you are low in Vit D that can affect your mood too. Where I am it has been very cloudy and I feel it in my mood. Since you are feeling so cold your body might be trying to ward off an illness. I have been listening to functional medicine doctors talk about how mental, physical, and spiritual trauma can put stress on your body. In their discussions they talked about how each person will have different symptoms from these stresses. How to relieve and heal that stress will also vary. The basics of good breathing(Dr. Patel one breath away from resetting your nervous system, diet that support you in a healthy way, movement ( too little or too much impedes healing) and sleep that restores you is healing. Sounds like you are listening to your body which is the first step. Can you get into a calmer state by breathing and then ask your body what it needs? Sounds like it might be rest/sleep. Earlier this week when I was exhausted I slept from 8-7 the next day. I usually sleep from 9 p.m-5a.m. Our bodies are also trying to adjust to the time change.

Hi hurtingheart1. What are some of the coping skills you have used in the past that have helped? I often forget those at very low points in my life. Sometimes distraction works for me things like colouring in, watching a kids movie, even things like being fussy over particular cleaning. Changing my sheets so I have a nice clean place to curl up in helps. If you need to hit the bed fir a bit give yourself the permission to do that - it’s good self care.

Make sure you stay well hydrated and you eat small regular snacks that include protein. I have to set an alarm to remind me if this at my lowest.

And remember as we are worldwide there is someone who will respond asap. I’m in New Zealand.

Keep reaching out here we are here for you.
