Hi Curry223 and welcome to the forum. I'm glad that you have discovered this supportive place...
I know little about sleeping pills, yet know that sleeping habits are so important and key to a steady rhythm for the body.
I'm sorry to hear that things have seemed so bad, to the point of wondering how to find a good nights sleep. Having grown up in school years with intense insomnia and never telling anyone at the time, I really sympathise.
At the time I didn't know/realise that it was PTSD that I was suffering from.
This forum can be helpful and positive in finding support and answers.
It's late here where I am, yet sending you best wishes.

Hi Curry,
Welcome to the community.
I am very sorry about your lack of sleep, it's the worst.
There are some medications that are helpful specifically for nightmares, for some people. One is called Prazosin, it's a blood pressure medication that is supposed to be helpful for nightmares. I haven't tried it.
Sleep is so very important to be able to function so I hope you will find something together with your doctor.
I'm sorry that you went through a trauma...
thank you Nathalie! Yes sleep is vital and some people take it for granted. I will definitely ask my doctor about that medication!
Hi Curry and Nathalie. I have used Prazosin and it worked great for me. Not only with nightmares, but with weird/bad dreams that I knew were somehow connected to my past. With either type of dreams, I would wake up and start my day in a panic (anxiety), worse depression or something like a Hangover that I could not shake for the rest of the day. And if I tried to analyze my dreams…… it’s best that I just let that go (the best I can anyway). I haven’t taken Prazosin in a while. So maybe I’ve gotten over them or for me the Rx has an on-going affect? (It actually scares me to think this and worse to admit it in writing, for fear the nightmares will come back. I know how crappy they are and what they leave us with.) If you try Prazosin I hope you get good results. I still have problems falling asleep and staying asleep, but the bad dreams aren’t there or not as bad/noticeable. Without quality sleep, everything that I have to deal with seems much bigger and much tougher to tackle. Peace of mind to you both.
