Hello, My name is Julie. I have PTSD from being hit on the highway, head on, by a fully loaded Semi-truck. the anger and outbursts just seem kinda part of what all I've experienced.
My real question. How does one heal PTSD?

Hi juliecarlstan,
I want to welcome you to the community.
It's a huge trauma you have been through and it might take time to heal. Finding the right trauma therapist could be a start.
You can have a look at some books about trauma and see if it helps to understand things better.
Each person is unique and our healing might be different.
Sending compassion and support...
Daily cardio exercise if you can to burn off stress. A5 minute pure cold shower daily, can reset the mind and calm .. Google it.. I think healing takes time
That's some good ideas
hi juliecarlstan, that is very traumatic...
I am very very sorry...
it will get better for you....especially since that is one trauma to handle and
you didn't have more before?
then a trauma therapist can help you exponentially I think...
emdr is what I have heard over and over works wonders for a one time huge trauma...
hang in there,
it is very possible to heal from what you said and I am very sorry, I know
the symptoms very well of ptsd rage and such...
can get better though, much better...<3
What is edmr?
hi julie....
EMDR is a form of therapy that many many people have
gotten so much relief from PTSD using....
I have read, especially for a one time trauma, works great ...
You could check on the right side of the page, home page under topics...
not sure if it says treatments or EMDR....and see what people have said about the results...
It is strange and seems like it would not work, but many manypeople , veterans, have healed ptsd using it...
I am still going to do it myself when I am more stable...
take good care
<3
Thank you, peacefulandcalm.
Here is a link to a first page of search results:

You can type "EMDR" in search box under the Posts tab in our community. That way you will be able to access all posts in our community. You can open the posts in a new tab in your browser.
We have a Topic called "Therapy experiences", however people don't assign topics unfortunately and the majority of the posts are without any topic.
Search isn't perfect but it can be a starting point.
Not easy. I have cPTSD from a very violent marriage which ended 30 years ago, which left me with two very young children who needed me.
Long story short; it took 20+ years to get to the point of recognising that the voice in my head was that of my late husband denigrating me still from beyond. I told him to go away because I wasn't listening any more. Took awhile, but I gradually got my confidence back and although I'm now disabled I am far better mentally than I was. I still have a problem with phones ringing or an unexpected knock on the door, or somebody creeping up behind me, they make me go into flight or fight mode, but it is getting better.
Hello Julie. It's good to meet you.I wanted to ask if you've had any potential brain injury as a consequence of this accident? PTSD can indeed be an understandable outcome of any trauma incident.
The reason that I ask, is because my step-father had a significant incident, which cause brain injury. What has been amazing to witness, is the transformation in both his attitude and capabilities. Having the right medical support was always crucial. Determination also.
Knowing that there is the right support out there, to support recovery means so much, as I have seen for my step-father.
From going from diagnosis of real disparity, he has in fact progressed to full recovery I would say. Of course, still some concerns where noise and bright lights (strobe lights) for example.
I wholly recommend finding the right medical (and personal) support system to enable you to get through this. And it can be done, which is why I write... I know my step-father doubted and had a tendency to become depressed at stages that it would never in fact happen.
But healing does occur - if well supported.
The important thing is to reach out and to try and act accordingly: finding the correct support, which will be out there. I appreciate that if you may be in the UK, that these options appear limited. The U.S. has much better medical care in these cases. Yet, even our personal gym trainer in the UK has helped to support a recovery programme, so I think there are many options to consider.
Apologies - you asked about PTSD, yet I feel that the parallels in aiming to heal are there and that, with the right support, there are options and recovery, is possible...
That was very nice of you to say, I appreciate it. I had a closed head injury, and more concussions through the years than I can remember...I asked a nurse to pull that safety glass out of my head, And ended up getting x rays of torso, lost my breathe, after the accident. Didn't see a Doctor for a few months....?
Was supposed to see neuro psychologist, still supposed to get an EEG after the seizures.
This is gonna sound dumb..I'm afraid of Doctors. Dr.s have been a destructive force in my past. So I fear their basic treatment, and don't have trust to let them tinker around in my head, tho I do have brain injury
Hi Julie,I have ptsd for 4 reasons, all different some including head injuries. I am sorry you are struggling but did you know that anger is a normal response to what has happened to you?
I would suggest going onto Headway (organisation for people with aquired head injury), they explain head injury from RTA both physical and psychological effects and ways to helpvand understand what you may be experiencing.
Over the time i have known i had ptsd (age 40) now 58 i use music to feel relaxed, energised or to exercise ( reduces thinking). Therapy from therapist knowlegable regarding ptsd and head injury.
Treatments may help are EMDR, talking therapy (not 6 weeks!) exercise really helps me when not in pain. Talking to family and been honest about difficulties so they can help along the way. Take time to recover, whatever that will mean for you. You will go through a range of emotions, anger, numness, sadness, denial, acceptance, joy but not necessarily in any particular order and some repetitive. Move forward one step at a time, i wish you well. My very best wishes for the future.

Your a Dr.?!?
Hi Julie,
Our community does not allow medical experts to participate in their official/professional capacity. They can only participate as peers, sharing from experience of their own trauma and recovery, not as a medical expert.
This allows for more honest sharing that would have been inhibited if we allowed experts in their official roles.
It is strongly recommended not to use professional titles, either in the profile or posts/replies.
Doctors or nurses, therapists, paramedics can suffer trauma and they need support for their PTSD and they are very welcome to share their experiences as long as they don't give advice or fall into their professional roles in our community.
I hope this answers some of your questions but let me know if you have any feedback.
Thanks,
Nathalie
Dear Nathalie,Im sorry for the offense. I was excited to think there were a Dr. I could talk and maybe relate to. I appreciate all of your suggestions. Thank you, j
Dear Julie,
It's not an offence, there are safeguards in place to protect members as it's online and anonymous platform.
HU does not replace the relationship with a health professional but it does give us a very unique opportunity to hear from and connect with others who have similar experiences to us.
You can talk to and relate to people regardless of who they are...
Hope it's helpful.
Nathalie
I am not a dr. One of my ptsd diagnoses is due to medical ? I am a trauma therapist and was reaching out to give my heartfelt support. And give hope that others can move forward and achieve too.
