How do you improve cognitive abilities?

I’m asking because I’m curious to see if there’s anything specifically that can be done to better process information to better learn and retain things without getting overwhelmed. If anyone knows what I’m talking about please let me know lol. Thanks 😊

It's a very good question, AmethystRain.

I would suggest dividing the work into smaller tasks so it doesn't overwhelm you. Also, just taking your time as the pressure of time makes things worse.

If you are triggered, then first trying the grounding techniques can help get calmer. When calm it is easier to study.

For mr personally it helped to walk while studying. I process information better when in movement or while talking to someone.

PNIAuthor60 might have more ideas about this subject.

For me yoga and meditation are the best tools—there are gentle kinds and intensive kinds and all kinds of meditation too, it makes your system grounded and stronger to be able to handle more.

Hi AmethystRain, I find it better not to be disturbed if I have to process information and especially study I have to be left alone.

It also has to be much slower as well especially when I am in a conversation trying to keep with people who talk THAT fast, it doesn't have time to register with me, you would think they had a bus to catch. So I empathize totally with what you are talking about so you are not alone. ☺

Oh Amethyst Rain,

I wish I knew! At my age I'm not sure if I have Fibrofog or dementia; Or is it the effects of lockdown not giving me stimulation?

I could really do with some help in that direction too, I have recently moved into an adapted bungalow, don't miss the stairs, but it is so small compared to my previous place. The kitchen is half the size, and with only a quarter of the cupboard space as one entire wall is French Doors.

Almost all the furniture had to go as it wouldn't fit, and my son is saying that if he sees another box of flatpack furniture he will scream! ;)

Cheers, Midori
