a wonderful new thing is happening where my arms have a mind of their own and jump all over the place at night. During the day the muscles just twitch. Anyone else have this

Only at night, am so glad it's not just me some nights I end up lying in bed in the dark sort of shadow boxing trying to wear my muscles out so they will let me get to sleep... I must admit its rare now I have good night meds but it still happens occasionally .. Used to happen every night ......

Thanks VG. No meds, no help. Hospital Doc said he thinks it is all in my mind and begrudgingly is sending me to rheumy after asking to be referred fro 10 months. Told me I have to see a psychologist, so I told him I will go once to prove he is wrong as this is in my body not my mind.

Periodic Limb Movement Disorder (PMLD) is where you basically have Restless Legs in both your legs and arms.

Restless Legs/PMLD and Fibro are both associated with low dopamine levels (as is Parkinsons, another condition famously linked with getting shaky). Some drugs used for severe PMLD (ropinirole, pramipexole) that work to boost dopamine are also sometimes used to treat Fibro. Benzodiazepines are sometimes prescribed for Restless Legs/PMLD and the benzos clonazepam and lorazepam are also sometimes used for Fibro. They work on muscle spasms and improve sleep quality (though can be risky if you have sleep apnea).

A referral to a neurologist might be a good idea, as twitching limbs can be a symptom of several disorders, not necessarily related to fibro.

I have fairly classic restless legs and arms, and if it gets really bad, I find an ice-pack helps a lot .

Unfortunately, most people throw up their hands in horror if I suggest this chilly remedy! It does work tho'!

I have this in arms and leags, and sometimes involuntary tiwitching from head to toe, mainly at night. Doc gave me amitriptyline to relax muscles before bed, 20mg a day. Hope this helps.

Mine unusually starts as I get drowsy/tired. I've got robaxin (methocarbamol) and quinine. Both are muscle relaxants which if one doesn't work, I try the other. Quinines not as sleep enducing so I use more in the daytime. Change docs if urs says its in ur mind. Good luck xx
