Is moods swings related to fibro or am i just a grumpy person?

Half the time I dont know myself why im grumpy and fed up? My husband seems to cop it most of the time. Its like I cant manage my emotions.... its so erratic, one min i can be in tears watching an advert on TV for animals rescue, kids in Siria. then i can lose my temper at the drop of a hat, or i can just feel really down and fed up... I just cant seem to stay on a level ground. I'm always tierd due to lack of good sleep, I suppose thats a contribution. I dont know if i should go to docs and get myself on some antideppresants or just put up and shut up. I get sick of feeling up and down all the tiem, i'm so indicisive its unreal. One min I want to go out and do something, then i can be fed up and not want to but i dont understand y.

I'm currently on Gabapentin 300mg x 3 daily, Amitriptyline 2 at night. Co-codamol 30/500 taking 2, 4 times a day.... I bet my GP cringes when she see my name on her clinic list lol. I would If i was her. My husband says I shouldnt blame everything on fibro.. but the docs do so you get into the habbit of thinking "whats the point of going to see a doc" just so they can say it wll be the fibro!!!!

Anyone else feel like this, on a daily basis. I dont think it helps i'm not working at the moment. I get bored at home, on the other hand when im working i feel too drained to do anything else.....

Hi I think it might be a good idea to get a med reveiw at your GPS ... I was on amatryptaline. And it did not suit me at all, I also tried a couple of antidepressants to block pain and help with sleep and they made me very irritated. For the last 18 months I have been much better. Due to a med change at night I take dosulepin 75mg an antidepressant and a low dose muscle relaxant and I sleep for 7'hours .....Amazing for me....For the previous 21 years I had been suffering from lack of sleep. I am not saying what suits me will suit you, but with trial and error you hopefully will find the meds that suit and after sleep everything seems that much easier to cope with..

Don't feel bad about having anti depressants so many fibro suffers are prescribed them to help scramble pain signals to the brain, and to help sleep

Good luck with whatever you decide

Hi Everso,

You are certainly showing symptoms of clinical depression, so don't suffer in silence. Being depressed makes fibro worse, so best to get it dealt with.

As I have already reminded one person today, never feel that you're bothering your doctor - how do you suppose they would earn their rather good salaries if we didn't consult them? :D

I very much hope you will manage to get some improvement soon, and please let us know how you get on.

Yes, yes,,, yes and yes. They are . It's in plenty of literature on fibro. Hormonal brain chemicals and plenty more. It upsets the balance. Don't know what medication your on but that can play havoc aswell as. Don't worry your not going mad . It affects me like pmt. so I can have pmt anytime. I use organic primrose oil. I have to say,, I took it for underarm gland pain and breast pain. It's either done something or its just a quinsidence .. I feel better but I can just snap at anytime . I used to be a very patient person but no more, the lack of sleep is not helping . Also look into reactive hypoglycaemia ,, it seems fibro sufferers are vulnerable to this . That's something that can effect moods . Moods are kind of expected thing with fibro,,nearly every book I've read mentions it. My Daughter has been so much calmer with me after reading some literature on it. Everyone does their bit to help now in the. House as they can see how much this condition is and has effected my moods. X

Thanks for reply, I'm going to research the reactive hypoglycaemia. I'm so fed up i have to do something. I want to go back to work asap, I need to work full-time and i think thats causing me a lot of stress because i enjoy working but the when i'm having a bad day I feel so guilty for calling in sick. My CV is so sporadic it puts employers off, recently Ive had 2 fantastic oppertunity's to have a good career, but my mood swings, constant fibro fog has prevented me from seeing it through. I get so dissapointed with myself and feel embarrased whn friends appear shocked that I have packed my job in. All i want is to be normal!! what ever normal is lol. Thank you for taking the time to reply. xxxx

Three things struck me about yr situation. Yr being hard on yourself and may well have depression. Constant pain and lack of sleep will do that! Also you may have to be pragmatic and settle for part-time work as a compromise. None of us can do what we used to, sadly. Acceptance is hard.

You could also do with some feelgood stuff, so encourage yr hubby to take you somewhere nice, like a day out or the cinema or theatre or for a meal x

I don't know how old you are but the menopause can give you erratic mood swings too.

Hi glochessum, Im 44. Not that i think i'm young lol but surely not old enough for that yet lol. Ive been researching the reactive hypoglycaemia that jjojay mentioned and to be honest it sounds very much like the same symptoms. I have always thought "could i be diabetic" in the back of my mind before this dredful fibro was diagnosed. Reason being because i can just go downhill so quick its unreal, I crave sugar like a fish needs water...

Some years ago i was having routine bloods taken and i was asked to take a urine sample in and when the nurse dip tested it she told me to make an apt with the gp because my urine was packed with sugar!!! Because i was a work aholic i didnt want to have a day off work again so i just forgot about it, or ignored it lol

But for years now when i have felt lathargic, or tierd i would have a mars bar and within 10 mins i feel back to normal. It could just be a coinsidence. Ive just always said my body needs chocolate and laughed it off, but after reading about the symptoms and comparing it to how i get sweaty palms, shakey, like someones pulled the energy plug then i have chocolate or a bowl of sugary cereal, ive even put chocolate spread on plain buiscuits to give me the sugar hit i craved it seems to all fit into place, maybe i should get it checked out but i feel a hypocondriact. Plus ive had routine bloods many times over the past few years and nothings ever come back abnormal, but i suppose they have to be testing for that specifically for that to show up????

Very wierd to say the least, My gp's also have a tendancy to rush you in and out, Ive gone before and mentioned more than one thing at once and they seem to be annoyed that you expect them to deal with more than one problem in one apt...What they get paid they should be more accomodating than that.. but hey sometimes i feel like reminding them if it wernt for patients they wouldnt have a piggin job!!

Oh i forgot to say ive also been rushed to hospital 2 months ago with palpatations, chest discomfort and a pulse rate twice the normal rate with a lower than normal blood pressure, all these symptoms were present at the same time. Id been having those symptoms for 3 weeks on and off, my gp gave me a good talking to for not seeking advise sooner, but as usual i had to work so didnt have time. At the hosp they gave me an ECG, this was normal so they put it down to working 45 to 50hrs a week and told me to slow down. Ive since left my job as a support worker... I havent had the palpatations nearly as much but have had them a few times, apparently that is also a symptom of hypoglycemia...

Wow eversohappy, This is sooo similar to me,,, my mom is type 1 diabetic my dad was type 2. Reactive hypoglycaemia is so similar when someone has an episode to a hypo in diabetics . Its also common in family gene groups.I have had a rush to hospital on a 999 very similar to a diabetic attack ,heart rate elevated ,dizzy ,passing out even a thirst for water all my throat dried up. Thing is when someone is checked for blood sugar in diabetics it shows on a blood test for sugar . Someone suffering from reactive hypoglycaemia attack ,, it wouldn't show on a blood sugar test. So random check on a 999 or even a visit to An E they wouldn't check. Because of my parents , I actually said to 999 I feel like I'm having a diabetic attack. Amazing,,,,, I am a support Worker and they told me same thing working to hard ect.. That was before I got diagnosed with fibro in January. Don't let anyone fob you off,, if you know something's wrong or feel it ,do your own research . Your a support worker and haven't got this far in life not knowing your own mind. I'm also 44 yrs old ,, wow it's like talking to me lol. They did same ECG. Palpitations , am actually on beaterblockers for irregular heartbeat and elevated heart rate. I don't even think I need to be on them because I feel in myself that it was down to something else. All my scans have turned out fine . Half the population have an irregular heartbeat my best friends is actually worse than mine.she isn't on anything . My rumy said its down to the condition , irregular heartrate ,,,and does not think beaterblockers is the answer . Although I would not stop them without talking to my chardiologist .I'm up to see cardiologist in March and I will talk it over with him. My heartrate was elevated for two days ,after coming out of hospital on the 999 call I just mentioned. then I was put on beaterblockers but it was slowly coming down. My heartrate is now bang on perfect and I am on the lowest dose. I check my blood pressure and heartrate five times a day. I've missed my tablet a few times when I've stayed at my moms. Heartrate is perfect and blood pressure normal. My blood pressure drops after taking my pill. Reactive Hypoglacemia is recognised in America , it's not so much here in Uk , although some doctors seem to understand it. I am going to mention it to my Endocronologist when I see her in March . I'm having my bloods looked at as part of my new diagnosis for fibro . If you feel you have RH,, and find any symptoms that show a real connection. As I do , let me know how you get on, I will be sure to save your name to fraves nd will let you know how I get on in March , with luck they will check me out or it. X
