Hi,

I don't believe we do. You can apply for a Warm home fuel discount if you are under a certain money level. It's worth £140 pounds. Not all energy suppliers are doing this though.

Hi you will get a winter fuel payment this year if you were born on or before 5 July 1952. Hope this helps.x

For the last goodness knows how long, I have been given a £10 "winter fuel supplement". - what a waste of paper and it should go to those in much more in need than me.

In short, yes if you are on benefits such as DLA or ESA you should be in line for a fuel supplement, but how much I'm afraid I can't tell you,

Sending positive Vibes your way :-)

Last year mine actually didn't happen despite having had the letter telling me about it coming in within the next few days. Not that it bothered me, but as I said, what a waste of time, paper and postage !!

in reply toFibrofoggiest

Hi foggy

Mine is automatically paid into my bank account

Ah well mine should have come through my post office account I think, but then again it could have skipped my foggy brain and gone into the bank account lalalala :o

no you have to be on pension credit. but you can claim a warm home discount if you're on dla or esa it's £140 so worth claiming. just type in warm home discount & it should come up with all the companies doing it. you need your reference number from gas/electric supplier x

Hi jane59

I sincerely hope that you are feeling well today? I have pasted you a link below to the GOV.UK website pages on Winter Fuel Allowance so I hope that this helps explain about it to you:

I got £10 but I thought that was for Christmas. Think the winter benefit is age related.

If you are in receipt of DLA, you can get the winter fuel payment of £140, which is paid into your bank account in March. All you need to do is telephone your fuel supplier and ask about it.

Good luck

I was told I'd get it in March from British Gas, but its not put into your account as cash, they credit it on your electric bills. Seems there are conflicting ideas about getting any help with heating costs from other sources on here. I thought u had to be a pensioner to qualify for that one. I have just failed to get ESA, after an Atos medical, so will only have my DLA to live on. That'll be fun, as I have most of my money taken.. to cover my motability car. My heating is run by Gas, so the warm homes scheme fails its title for me..cos its credited to the electric, of which I use very little. So I shall still have to wear a coat & hat indoors this winter...even in my bed! That's assuming, as I live alone...by spring, due to the withdrawal of my income support, they don't discover my skeleton.

Yes it goes on your electric account but you can either ask your provider to transfer any credit on you account to your gas one or claim a refund of the amount in credit on your electric account then use the refund to pay your gas account ☺

in reply tolynnh

Hi Lynnh.it would be so much more straightforward if they just paid it into the account you want in the first place?

So sorry to hear of your predicament they don't realise when they make these decisions how far reaching the repurcusions are for people like yourself. I do hope you can get some help with appealing against the decision. Warm hugs as it sounds as though you might be needing them.x

I've only just noticed this message. If it was for me, I really appreciate it. I'm really struggling on here.. Well, I'm struggling with pretty much everything right now. Even the keypad on my mobs is hard work lol.x

Yes it was meant for you it just seemed to come out in the wrong place I am struggling with stiff finger syndrome today which sounds the same as you, probably the weather isn't helping. I can commiserate as I know what it is like to have to try to get those sort of decisions overturned as had the same problem with mine and my OH's ESA. We hadn't long won his case when the government decided that if it was contribution based and you had been on in a year it would be stopped we could not believe it after the struggle we had had. I use my DLA to run my 10 year old car and I am due to have to apply for the dreaded PIP in April and am not looking forward to that battle. The trouble is when you are ill you feel the cold so much more don't you and heating bills are huge now. Hoping to move to a bungalow which hopefully will be easier to heat than the house we are in. Hope you have a better day tomorrowx

Hello again rosewine. I still can't find my way round this site & keep abandoning it. I've finally managed to get my GP to come out & visit me. He is supposed to get here after 1pm tomorrow. Its been 3wks & 2dys since I've been out of my cluttered bedroom... Apart from the bathroom, when absolutely necessary! I've been turned down a home visit a wk or 2ago, but resorted to saying,"If anything happens to me, there will be a note in my bedroom... Naming & shaming him...as the doctor who would not come out to me" I think its the only reason he's conceded to finally do a home visit. I will be embarrassed for him to see the state of the place, but maybe he should. I'm on my own & things have deteriorated over many yrs.

I am so glad to hear that the doctor is coming out to you sometimes only extreme pressure will do. I know the last time I was refused a home visit and my friend managed to get me down to the GP's when the receptionist who had refused me saw me she did have the conscience to come over and apologise when she saw what a state I was in and made sure I was next in. I had only had a doctor out to me twice in about 25 years so surely they can see from our records those people who are genuine. I think you should make no attempt to clear up so he can see how it really is for you. Let us know how you get on.xx

slingblade96 profile image
slingblade96 in reply torosewine

I haven't got it in me to clear up anyway rose wine. If I did, I wouldn't have asked for a visit. I'm still convinced that for the most part M.E isn't taken seriously. I've been I'll since 1990 & have never asked for a home visit. I'm at the point of being sick of suffering in silence. Where has it got me? Nowhere & through lack of medical input, I'm losing my income support. I am sick of the lack of help, I'm sick of having to try & fight a system that makes everything too difficult & overwhelming, Im sick of being isolated, but mostly.. I'm sick of being sick!! X

in reply toslingblade96

I thought this would be credited to my bank account when first applied but as you say they credit it to your electricity account.as I pay by DD they then reduce my payments to compensate.i think they should give the option of which account you want it to be credited to depending on whether you have gas or electric heating.I would prefer it to go into my gas account.

slingblade96 profile image
slingblade96 in reply to

Most of us would opt for gas..& that's exactly why they do it that way. Not to mention that gas is usually more expensive! It makes a mockery of the reason its called the Warm Homes Allowance. Yet another total injustice to sick & vulnerable people. Don't get me started lol.

in reply toslingblade96

hi there.yes gas is more expensive but it is a fixed sum of money but then i figure what i am not paying in electric i can allow for my gas .i budget a set amount each month for my bills so when they go up or down i allow for that.

I'm having terrible trouble with this site. It keeps jumping all over the place. I think I miss half of what I'm interested in. I've also wanted to reply to peoples posts, especially people that sounded distressed, as I can identify with that myself & know how isolated some of us are, but I've often abandoned it, due to the problems I'm having on here. Anyway, at least I've managed to talk to you today.. even if only about bills etc lol. Hope u manage to keep warm, I'm already wearing my coat over my dressing gown!! Jan

Hiya all, I recieve DLA and ESA plus my water rates are capped after asking for a medical form n my do signing it, saying I need to have a bath twice a day to ease my muscles. I wish I had the energy to do so!

I'm now going to apply for the £140 from British gas too.

If u have any probs or are worried about filling in forms, call it council n ask for a social worker to come out. Everyone is entitled to one.good luck n good health x
